Per the Boston Strong X account, here is the Opening Day roster for the Boston Red Sox:

Starters: Garrett Crochet, Ranger Suarez, Sonny Gray, Brayn Bello, Johan Oviedo

Bullpen: Aroldis Chapman, Garrett Whitlock, Justin Slaten, Greg Weissert, Connelly Early, Jovani Moran, Danny Coulombe, Waxston.

Infielders: Willson Contreras, Marcelo Mayer, Trevor Story, Caleb Durbin, Andruw Monasterio, Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

Outfielders: Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela

Catchers: Carlos Narvaez, Connor Wong.

The Red Sox made a few big offseason additions this season. First, they traded for Sonny Gray, who will start game number two. They traded for Willson Contreras after, and then signed Rangr Suarez as the big free agency signing.

Red Sox Season Outlook

The Boston Red Sox kick off their 2026 season with the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday at 4:10 p.m. ET at Great American Ballpark. Garrett Crochet will get the Opening Day start, and he’s the arm that the Red Sox are going to lean on for the entire season. The additions of Suarez and Gray are huge for the rotation, and Willson Contreras should help solidify the lineup after the departure of Alex Bregman.

All in all, Boston should be a top competitor in the American League, and have a slightly outside shot to win the AL East.

The late addition of Caleb Durbin helps fill a gap in the infield, and this roster update will question what Kristian Campbell’s role is with this organization. Marcelo Mayer has been announced as the team’s second baseman, and Kiner-Falefa could get some at-bats before Campbell.

The Red Sox might want to explore trading Campbell if there’s not going to be a use for the young infielder.

With Wilyer Abreu being listed in the outfielder group, one might assume he earned the third outfield spot over Jarren Duran, and Duran will begin the year as the DH.
