Astros make Carlos Correa announcement.

The Houston Astros will be without starting shortstop Carlos Correa before Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Houston originally had Correa leading off and playing shortstop. Yet, just before the first pitch, the team announced Correa was scratched from the lineup due to an injury.

“Carlos Correa has been scratched from tonight’s lineup due to a left ankle injury,” the Astros wrote on X.

With Correa scratched, the Astros updated lineup is as follows:

Correa is hitting .279 with 3 home runs and 16 RBIs this season. In the series opener against the Dodgers, Correa went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and now won’t play on Tuesday.

Correa is a three-time All-Star and won the World Series with the Astros in 2017. Houston re-acquired Correa in July of 2025.

Correa Was Ecstatic to be Back in Houston

The Astros re-acquired Correa in 2025, and he was excited to be back in Houston.

Correa was selected first overall by Houston in 2012 and ended up being a franchise-altering player for the Astros. However, in 2022, he signed a three-year contract worth $105.3 million with the Minnesota Twins. He opted out of the deal after one season, and after a failed deal with the San Francisco Giants, he re-signed with the Twins for six years and $200 million plus vesting options that could increase the value of the deal to $270 million.

Just three years into the deal, he was traded back to Houston, which he was excited about.

“I never thought this would happen, or there was a chance for this to happen,” said Correa. “And when it started developing, we were in constant conversations with the front office over in Minnesota. Then when it finally happened, I called my wife, that’s when it started kicking in. And it was surreal.”

Jose Altuve, meanwhile, was excited to be reunited with Correa in Houston.

“He’s a great leader, man,” Altuve said. “He’s a guy that definitely makes your clubhouse better. We all know how passionate he is about baseball, how smart he is and how he can affect other players and make them better.”

Correa was AL Rookie of the Year in 2015 and won a Gold Glove Award in 2021.

Astros Drop 1st Game of Series to Dodgers

Houston suffered an 8-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers at home on Monday.

It was a frustrating loss for the Astros, as Ryan Weiss allowed 6 runs on 8 hits over 4.1 innings, which he was frustrated with.

“They’re a good team, I just didn’t execute,” Weiss said after the loss. “I feel like I’ve said that so much to you guys, but yeah. I got ahead to a good amount of hitters. But I wasn’t good enough late in the count, when I had two strikes or whatever it was, and they beat me.”

With the loss, the Astros fell to 14-22 and are in fourth place in the AL West. Houston will go on the road to play the Cincinnati Reds for three games over the weekend.
