The Los Angeles Dodgers are back-to-back World Series Champions, and the rich are going to attempt to get richer this offseason, as they search for a high-leverage right-handed reliever. The early reports in MLB’s free agency point to the Dodgers being active in the market, and a recent report has Los Angeles making a splash for a two-time All-Star reliever on the Yankees.
Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports that there is mutual interest between the Dodgers and New York Yankees‘ reliever Devin Williams.

Should the Dodgers be interested in Devin Williams?
The Dodgers should be interested in Devin Williams. This past offseason, Los Angeles went out and acquired Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates, and Blake Treinen. However, none of those pitchers made an impact on the Dodgers’ World Series run this year, and Los Angeles’s payroll is opening up this offseason with a few players being off the books.
Devin Williams had a rough season this year with New York after being traded from the Milwaukee Brewers. He posted a 4.79 ERA in 62 innings and recorded 18 saves. Williams blew several saves with the Yankees, but playing in Yankee Stadium certainly did not help with that inflated ERA. However, Dodger Stadium is a much more favorable ballpark for right-handed pitchers.

From 2021 to 2024, Devin Williams was one of/if not the best reliever in baseball. He posted a 2.50 ERA or lower in four straight seasons with the Brewers. He was in and out of the closer role with the Yankees. He lost the job in early May, but then regained it in July. New York then acquired David Bednar in July, and Williams was used in a more leverage role after that.

Devin Williams Still Has A Great Arsenal
The one thing that is still enticing about Devin Williams is his strikeout ability. He still has one of the best changeups in baseball and struck out 34.7% of the batters he faced in 2025, racking up 90 strikeouts in 62 innings.
There is good reason to believe that Williams will regain his All-Star form this season, and there are also some reports pointing to a potential reunion between the Yankees and Williams. He isn’t going to get the lucrative multi-year extension like he would have hoped for. But Williams can regain some credibility if he has a solid 2026 season.
The Dodgers are expected to be big spenders once again, and the rest of the MLB community will likely be upset when they do. As of now, they continue to be linked to all the top free agents. Adding Williams would be a good little reclamation project for Los Angeles.
