Devin Williams: Breaking News

Williams picked up the save Friday against Atlanta. He allowed two hits and no walks while striking out two while not being charged with a run over 1.1 innings. The veteran closer was called upon with two outs and runners on second and third in the eighth inning and allowed an inherited runner to score on an infield single, but he then induced a flyout and returned for the ninth to finish off his second save in as many days. Williams has given up just one run with a 12:4 K:BB across his past six appearances and has been scored upon just twice in his past 17 outings, dating back to April 26. His 5.01 ERA and 1.50 WHIP remain inflated, but Williams has still secured 10 of 11 save chances and has a 14.3 K/9 across 23.1 innings this year.

Williams earned the save in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Cardinals, striking out a pair in a perfect ninth inning. Williams made quick work of St. Louis on Wednesday to close out the Mets' one-run victory, earning his ninth save this season. After a shaky start to the year, Williams has now converted his last seven save chances while holding opponents scoreless in 14 of his last 16 appearances. Overall, Williams sports a 5.32 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB across 22 innings this season.

Williams struck out three and also walked three in a scoreless ninth to steal a save in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Cincinnati. Williams walked the bases loaded in the top of the ninth with one out, but was able to fan Dane Myers and Blake Dunn for his eighth save in nine attempts this season. The right-hander has now converted on six straight save chances with his only blemish being a loss against Miami on May 24. During this span, Williams has given up 4 earned runs (all coming in the loss) and has a 13:7 K:BB ratio over nine innings.
