Before their first game of the season, the Mets made the decision to option Austin Warren.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote: “The Mets optioned Austin Warren today, further strengthening left-hander Bryan Hudson’s position for that final bullpen spot. Richard Lovelady is also here though, and Mets officials have been open about their intention to scour the waiver wire/upward mobility pool for help.”

Warren is coming off a year where he went 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA in five games for the Mets.

Prior to New York, he had also spent time with the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants over five total seasons.

DiComo added: “In addition to Austin Warren, the Mets sent out Kevin Herget and Robert Stock today.

That leaves 15 healthy pitchers in camp. Fourteen have been assured jobs, with Bryan Hudson, Richard Lovelady and Craig Kimbrel still in contention for the one remaining spot.”

Warren’s Career

Warren (who is 30) has gone 7-0 with a 2.79 ERA in 43 total games.

His most influential tenure came with the Angels when he appeared in 32 games over three seasons.

Michael Baron of Just Mets wrote: “#Mets roster moves:

RHP Kevin Herget and RHP Robert Stock reassigned to minor league camp

39 players left in camp.”

The Mets are coming off a year where they were the second-place team in the NL East.

They came just one game shy of making the 2025 MLB playoffs.

The franchise last won a World Series Championship during the 1986 season.
