NFL reigning MVP Josh Allen briefly exited Sunday’s game against the New York Jets after suffering a bloody nose from a hit to the face during a run late in the first quarter, missing just two plays.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback had a visibly swollen and scarred nose during his postgame press conference.
“How’s the face, the nose?” a reporter asks Allen.
“We can breathe, so it’s good,” Allen said.

The reporter mentions that it was hard to tell what happened from the broadcast and while in the press box. Allen explains.
“I pulled it when I probably should have handed it off,” he said. “I tried to throw it and saw him push and decided to tuck it. I don’t know what hit me. It was a knee, it was a hand, it was somebody. Helmet just kind of came down right on the bridge of my nose and it just started leaking.”
Despite often attempting risky and dangerous plays, Allen said he probably hadn’t been hit in the nose like that since high school.
“We’ll be alright,” he said.
Mitch Trubisky Comes In and Does His Job
Mitch Trubisky stepped in for Allen while he was being evaluated on the sideline.
On his first pass, Trubisky connected with Josh Palmer on a 32-yard crossing route on 3rd-and-7, moving the chains for a fresh set of downs. Following a short run by Ty Johnson, the first quarter ended, allowing Bills trainers additional time to tend to Allen.
“It’s tough because you should go down there to give Mitch a chance to kind of catch his bearings to kind of come out there,” Allen said. “Obviously gushing blood and I just wanted to try to get off the field and stop it. For him to come off the bench like that, no warm-up, no nothing, and to be ready. I think that’s a true embodiment of the character and man that he is, coming in there and making a play on third down for us. That was a huge drive, it was a huge play. Shout out Mitch.”
Bills Soar to Comfortable Victory
Bills improved to 2-0 on the season with a 30-10 road victory over the Jets. The win was powered by a dominant rushing attack and a stellar defensive performance.
Running back James Cook spearheaded the Bills’ offense, rushing 21 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by a 44-yard score in the second quarter. Josh Allen contributed on the ground as well, carrying six times for 59 yards, while also going 14-for-25 through the air for 148 yards and absorbing one sack.
The Bills’ defense dominated, limiting the Jets to just 154 total yards and keeping New York out of the red zone until less than four minutes remained in the fourth quarter.
With just over eight minutes left, Allen and several offensive starters headed to the sideline, allowing Trubisky to finish the game as the Bills cruised to a comfortable win over their division rival.
