The Houston Texans have filled the final void on their offensive line in free agency, securing the services of Wyatt Teller.

A veteran of eight NFL seasons, Teller brings a wealth of experience to a maligned Texans front five that has been remade for the second consecutive offseason. However, his arrival closes an extended connection following trade interest last year.

Now, the Texans can prepare for the 2026 draft with more roster flexibility.

“The #Texans have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with G Wyatt Teller, sources tell me and @RapSheet,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported on X on March 17. “A three-time Pro Bowler with the #Browns, Teller finds a new home in Houston.”

KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported that Teller signed a “two-year, $23 million max value for Wyatt Teller with a $16 million base value, per a league source.”

Teller, who turns 32 in November, is a three-time Pro Bowler.

He is coming off a three-year, $56.8 million contract with the Browns. Teller has north of $61 million in career earnings.  Spotrac projected a three-year, $30.5 million contract for Teller in free agency.

The Texans shuffled their offensive line significantly last offseason, returning just one starter from the previous campaign.

That was Tytus Howard, whom they traded to the Cleveland Browns this offseason.

Former GM Questioned Texans’ Approach

Teller joins a revamped front five for the Texans. It includes (left to right) 2025 second-round pick Aireontae Ersery, himself, fellow free agent pickups Evan Brown and Braden Smith. The Texans also re-signed Ed Ingram.

The Texans’ offensive line was still viewed as a weak spot, even after adding Brown and Smith.

Former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum considered the Texans a team that took a step back this offseason before Houston GM Nick Caserio added Teller.

“Last year, they lost left tackle Laremy Tunsil. And this year, they traded right tackle Tytus Howard and replaced him with Braden Smith. I’m not sure how these O-line changes help further quarterback C.J. Stroud’s development,” Tannenbaum wrote on March 17. “Ideally, they should sign a veteran such as Joel Bitonio if he plays in 2026. He’ll be 35 in October but has started 178 games.”

Notably, Bitonio and Teller were teammates for the past seven seasons in Cleveland. Bitonio was also viewed as an option for the Texans, but his potential retirement loomed as a negating factor in comparison to Teller.

Texans Expected to Continue Aggressive Approach

The Texans’ free agency additions have been viewed as quality, including bringing Teller in. However, ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler expects the Texans to attack the situation with volume, too.

“Texans with five OL signings over last 10 days — and might not be done,” Fowler reported on X on March 17.

That would fit with Tannenbaum’s suggestion.

Tannenbaum also pointed to the 2026 draft, in which the Texans are slated to pick 28th overall, and pointed to Kadyn Proctor and Max Iheanachor as “possibilities.” The Texans have ensured that they can take the best option available with Teller and their other free agency moves.
