There have been a lot of strange rumors connecting the New York Jets to former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams this offseason.
On “Jets Final Drive” on Wednesday, March 11, we got an update on what the heck was going on.
“Zack [Rosenblatt], we have seen the chat and the comments about the Jamal Adams thing. So, from my understanding, it’s funny because one of my buddies who is a big Jets fan texted me about it. Apparently, they changed like his Pro Football Focus page to say he is with the Jets or something like that? I sent a quick text message over to somebody. I haven’t gone as deep to like dive into it, but the person had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. So I don’t think that is totally accurate,” NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY said.
“Yeah, I think we can safely assume that Jamal Adams will not be a Jet again,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic responded.
Bizarre Rumors That Sprung Up
Richie Mollura of Jets Media posted on X, “There’s either a really weird glitch going on across the internet or Jamal Adams is about to be a Jet. If you go to PFF he’s listed a Jet. If you go to Wikipedia, he’s listed a Jet. The Real app notified he’s a Jet. Is Jamal about to come home too or is this just a weird glitch!”
Richie summed it up, but the rumors caught like wildfire across social media. Adams kept popping up on unofficial team site accounts listed as a member of the Jets.
Adams, 30, originally entered the league as the No. 6 overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft.
The former LSU product spent the first three years of his career with the Jets. During that run, he was named a first-team All-Pro and a second-team All-Pro. The relationship didn’t end on good terms whatsoever, as Adams did everything in his power to get himself out of New York.
The Jets obliged and shipped him off in a blockbuster trade to the Seattle Seahawks in 2020. In exchange, the Jets received two future first-round picks that became wide receiver Garrett Wilson and offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker.
Wilson became a star pass catcher for the Jets and is currently the highest-paid player in franchise history. AVT spent the first five years of his career with the Jets, but signed with the New England Patriots this offseason on a three-year, $42 million contract.
Jets Have Been a Class Reunion This Offseason
Since leaving the Jets, Adams has bounced around the league. He spent four years in Seattle. Then over the last two years, he has suited up for the Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, and most recently, the Las Vegas Raiders.
Adams has since apologized for how things broke down with the Jets and even sought a reunion with the green and white previously.
It doesn’t sound like that’s in the cards.
However, the Jets have been reuniting with people this offseason:
- Frank Reich (1996)
- Demario Davis (2012-15, 2017)
- Geno Smith (2013-16)
- Karl Dunbar (2012-14)
- Seth Ryan (son of former Jets HC Rex Ryan)
