The San Francisco 49ers have been dealt a slew of tough injuries to begin the 2025 campaign, but the most devastating of the bunch occurred in the team’s Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals. After leaving the game early, it was revealed that superstar defensive lineman Nick Bosa had suffered a torn ACL, which will end his season prematurely.

There’s no doubt that the loss of Bosa is a huge blow for the Niners, but they will have to find a way to move forward without him. Soon, Bosa will begin working his way back from this ailment, but first, he has to undergo surgery, which led to general manager John Lynch providing a big update on Bosa’s status in the wake of this devastating injury.

Nick Bosa Set to Undergo Surgery on Friday

Since being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Bosa has turned himself into one of the top pass rushers in the league. He has five Pro Bowl selections, while also earning the 2019 Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year Award, showing just how important he is to the 49ers‘ defense.

In 2020, Bosa’s season was cut short in Week 2, thanks to another torn ACL, so this isn’t his first rodeo when it comes to recovering from this serious injury. Bosa faces a long and grueling rehab ahead of him, but he’s already returned and managed to play at an All-Pro level once, so who’s to say he can’t do it again?

The first step for Bosa involves going under the knife and getting his injury fixed, but first, he has to wait for the swelling to subside so that doctors can operate on him. It sounds like that has happened, because Lynch revealed on Thursday that Bosa is scheduled to undergo his ACL reconstruction procedure on Friday, which will then allow him to begin his recovery process.

49ers GM John Lynch told KNBR that Nick Bosa will have his ACL reconstruction on Friday,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shared in a post on X.

49ers Set to Push Forward Without Nick Bosa

Bosa isn’t the only key player who has suffered an injury for the Niners early in the 2025 campaign, as Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Jauan Jennings have all also missed time to begin over the first three games of the season. And yet, the team is undefeated to this point, having taken down the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, and Arizona Cardinals, despite being shorthanded each time they have run onto the field.

The problem is that San Francisco remains shorthanded, and winning is going to become much more difficult now that Bosa isn’t leading the team’s defensive line. The only thing the 49ers can do is push forward without their superstar defender, as they will look to earn their fourth straight win when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4 at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
