The Seattle Seahawks may have one more reclamation project worth considering before the regular season arrives.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named Seattle one of two “logical landing spots” for free-agent offensive lineman Mekhi Becton, pairing the defending Super Bowl champions with the Detroit Lions as possible fits for the 27-year-old former first-round pick.

“The Seahawks would likely view Becton as depth, but they are clearly open to reclamation projects, as evidenced by their recent signing of Trevon Diggs,” Knox wrote.

That framing makes sense for Seattle.

The Seahawks don’t have an obvious vacancy up front, but Becton would bring starting experience, positional flexibility and a massive 6-foot-7, 363-pound frame to a group trying to defend its title.

Becton Is Somewhat of a Gamble

Becton’s career has landed on both ends of the spectrum.

The New York Jets selected him No. 11 overall in the 2020 NFL draft and signed him to a fully guaranteed four-year, $18.45 million rookie contract. Injuries disrupted much of his tenure in New York, and he hit free agency after four seasons.

His career found new life with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024.

Becton moved from tackle to right guard, started 15 regular-season games and helped Philadelphia win Super Bowl LIX. Pro Football Focus gave him a 75.2 overall grade that season, which ranked 16th among guards with at least 500 snaps, per the Chargers’ official website.

That bounce-back year earned Becton a two-year, $20 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers in March 2025.

The follow-up didn’t go nearly as well.

Becton dealt with injuries and inconsistent play during his lone season in Los Angeles. PFF gave him a 35.7 overall grade in 2025, ranking 79th among 81 qualifying guards. The Chargers released him on March 4, saving nearly $10 million against the 2026 salary cap.

Knox suggested an incentive-heavy prove-it contract could give a contender considerable upside if Becton can rediscover his 2024 form.

Seattle’s O-Line Gives Becton Room to Rebound

The Seahawks enter 2026 with stability they didn’t have a year ago.

Seattle brought back all five starting offensive linemen from its Super Bowl run and retained top swing tackle Josh Jones. The Seahawks allowed 27 sacks in 2025, tied for fifth fewest in the NFL, after surrendering 54 the previous season.

The starting tackle jobs belong to Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas, both of whom signed multi-year extensions, while Grey Zabel emerged as one of the league’s better young guards during his rookie season.

Seattle’s continuity up front means Becton won’t have to step directly into the lineup.

It could also make the Seahawks an ideal landing spot.

Becton would be able to compete for a reserve role as he provides Seattle with a blocker holding extensive starting experience at both tackle and guard. He has made 59 starts in 61 career regular-season appearances.

Seattle has already shown a willingness to bet on accomplished players seeking a reset, especially with its recent addition of Diggs.

Becton could be risky after a difficult 2025 season, but the price should reflect that.

All things considered, the former No. 11 overall pick could represent the kind of late-summer depth move a contender will necessitate down the line.
