The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be missing several of their superstar players headed into their first prime time showdown of the year with a Week 2 Monday Night Football road game against the Houston Texans but ended up managing to keep another key player off the inactives report.
After a week of going back and forth over a foot injury suffered in a season opening win over the Atlanta Falcons, the Buccaneers did not include standout right offensive tackle Luke Goedeke among their inactives.
The Buccaneers included on the inactives report were NFL All-Pro left offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, NFL All-Pro wide receiver Chris Godwin, tight end Devin Culp, wide receiver Tez Johnson, running back Josh Williams and safety Rashad Wisdom.
From Buccaneers.com on September 15: “Luke Goedeke, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ starting right tackle, missed most of the week of practice and had to pass a pregame assessment by the team’s trainers but he is going to suit up on Monday night against the Houston Texans. Goedeke had sustained a foot injury in the Buccaneers‘ season-opening win at Atlanta but his availability prevents further shuffling of the team’s offensive line.
Graham Barton, who started 16 games at center as a rookie in 2024, has been filling in for Wirfs while he’s out with a knee injury.

Previously On … Buccaneers vs. Texans
The Texans and Buccaneers last played in Week 9 of the 2023 regular season, with Houston pulling out a 39-37 win in Houston.
The 2 same starting quarterbacks were playing for both teams with C.J. Stroud and Baker Mayfield, and both were in the first season as starters for their respective teams — Mayfield went on to make his first Pro Bowl in 2023 and Stroud was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
In the 2023 matchup, Stroud made NFL history, going 30-of-42 passing for an NFL rookie record 470 yards, 5 touchdowns and no interceptions.
Mayfield was 21-of-30 passing for 265 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions.
Goedeke Just Signed Massive Contract Extension
Goedeke landed the first major payday of his career just days before the start of the regular season.
“The #Bucs have agreed to terms with their standout OT Luke Goedeke, as he gets a 4-year, $90M deal — $22.5M APY — that includes $50M guaranteed,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on his official X account on September 2. “Tampa Bay locks up another key O-lineman.”
Goedeke’s deal made him the third highest paid right offensive tackle in the NFL behind Detroit’s Penei Sewell ($28.1 million APY) and Philadelphia’s Lane Johnson ($25 million APY).
The Buccaneers signed Wirfs to the largest contract for an offensive lineman in NFL history before the 2024 season with a 5-year, $140.6 million extension.
“Breaking: The #Bucs and RT Luke Goedeke have agreed to a 4-year, extension, per multiple sources,” NFL reporter Jordan Schultz wrote on his official X account. “The former 2nd-round pick has become a key piece on Tampa Bay’s offensive line, and now gets a well-earned payday.”
