Jannik Sinner’s Coach, Darren Cahill, Praises World No. 1

Prior to the start of the Cincinnati Open, reports emerged suggesting that Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, wouldn’t be traveling with the world No. 1 to Cincinnati or New York for the US Open.

Those rumors turned out to be false, with Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi both on hand to help Sinner in his quest to go back-to-back in Cincy.

While speaking with ATPTour.com at the Cincinnati Open, Cahill praised Sinner, reflecting on his growth over the past few years following a win over Alcaraz at Wimbledon.

“That’s why we are so proud as coaches, because all that work you’ve been doing for the past three years eventually shows up in a big match, at a big tournament, for him to be able to get through and win that match.

“So it’s not just four or five days when you can make those big changes. It’s the combination of a year or two of just pushing him day to day and making sure we continue to work on those things.”

As Cahill went on to explain, back in 2022, when he first started working with Sinner, he specifically began helping the Italian star improve his serve.

Now, according to ATPTour.com, in addition to Sinner being the best returner on tour, he’s also got the third best serve rating behind only Giovanni Mpetsh Perricard and Taylor Fritz.

Cahill Discusses Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz Rivalry

This season has seen Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz battle it out on some of the biggest stages of the sport.

In May, Alcaraz snapped Sinner’s 26-match win streak in the finals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, winning his seventh ATP Masters 1000 title.

Then, the following month, the two battled it out in the French Open final, with Alcaraz notably coming back from two sets down, however, just weeks later, Sinner got his revenge, defeating Alcaraz to claim his maiden Wimbledon title.

As Cahill explained to ATPTour.com, the two have separated themselves from their peers, and now it’s up to everyone else to play catch-up:

“We’re seeing an incredible level of tennis at the moment, with Carlos [Alcaraz] and Jannik. If you look at their body of work over the past couple of years, they’ve separated themselves from the field. Now it’s up to the field to chase.”

Whether the two wind up competing in the finals of the Cincinnati Open, only time will tell.
