Mullah Norullah Noori, an Afghan national born in 1967. According to the Department of Defense profile of Nori released by Wikileaks, he is identified as a senior Taliban military commander. He reportedly led the forces fighting against the U.S. in Mazar-e-Sharif in late 2001. Before the invasion, Nori was the Taliban governor for the Balkh and Laghman provinces, where the United Nations accused him of war crimes for the killing of Shiite Muslims. In November 2001, Nori was encouraged to turn himself in. He was transferred to Guantanamo in January 2002. He was characterized as being compliant and "rarely hostile toward guard force and staff." He was listed as being of high intelligence value and was still being interrogated by 2008.
