New York Mets Get Strong Reactions Across Social Media After 11th Straight Loss

The New York Mets, with a $371 million payroll, have lost 11 straight Major League Baseball games and are now 7-15, still the worst record in baseball.

The most recent loss came disastrously once again. The Mets were swept by the Chicago Cubs after a 10th-inning walk-off Sac Fly by Nico Hoerner. New York had been leading by one heading into the ninth inning on Sunday, but they blew it in the ninth, didn’t score in the top half of the 10th inning, and were subsequently walked off on and the game finished with a 2-1 score. That’s 19 runs in 11 games since April 7 for the team from Queens.

The Mets have also been swept in three straight series.

When Will the Mets Win Again?

It’s been about as tough a stretch as any MLB team can have, especially to start a season with such high expectations. Juan Soto is set to return to the lineup next week, but if it wasn’t apparent before of Soto’s value to a team, I think all Mets fans understand now.

New York opted to start Tobias Myers instead of David Peterson on Sunday against the Cubs.

David Stears has already backed Carlos Mendoza due to the offense being stagnant, and how that shouldn’t fall on the manager, but after 11 consecutive losses, wholesale changes need to be made.

MLB World Reacts to Mets Recent Loss

It’s been a tough couple of weeks for the New York Mets, but there’s no lack of entertainment on social media after the recent loss. Here are some of the best reactions:

@ActionNetworkHQ: “And with that the Mets (+120) have lost 11 STRAIGHT games… Their worst start to a season since 1983. “
@ExpectedChop: “Make it 11 straight losses for the Mets. Down to 7-15 through 22 games. For reference, the 2025 Braves started the year 9-13 in what was considered a disastrous start.”
Mets fans, who is to blame at this point? Is it Carlos Mendoza? David Sterns? Francisco Lindor? Bo Bichette?
@John_Skrynecki: “Cant remember a more unlikable bunch of losers than this current iteration of the Mets. 300 million has brought them no identity, no strength, and no depth”

Will Juan Soto Turn Things Around?

It’s hard to think one player can turn a season around, but the New York Mets will be begging for a superhero effort from Juan Soto during the months of May, June, July, August, and September.

Will Sammon writes (on April 19): “The Mets have lost 11 straight, tying their longest losing streak since 2004. They are 7-15. Already, they have either been shut out or held to one run eight times (including today).”

It’s hard to lose 11 games in Major League Baseball, even if any given team wasn’t particularly trying to win.

Jeff Passan wrote (on April 18) after the Mets lost their 10th straight game:

“Four teams in MLB history have lost 10 or more games in a row and made the playoffs. The last was the Guardians in 2025. Only one of those teams had a skid in April and still made the postseason: the 1951 Giants, who lost 11 consecutive.. The New York Mets have lost 10 straight.”

The hope for the Mets is that Juan Soto returns next week, but again, that isn’t known yet. For reference and perspective, the Yankees haven’t lost 10 games in a row since 1913.
