David Peterson: Breaking News

Peterson (1-4) earned the win Monday against the Rockies. He allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out six over four innings. Peterson, working behind Huascar Brazoban and Austin Warren, turned in a respectable effort in bulk relief, good enough to earn his first win of the season. The southpaw held the opposition scoreless through his first three innings before allowing a pair of runs in the seventh inning, underscoring his struggles to work deep into games and navigate a lineup multiple times. Across 34.1 innings in 2026, Peterson owns a 6.29 ERA and 1.60 WHIP with a 35:14 K:BB. The 30-year-old will look to stay in the win column in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Diamondbacks, though it remains to be seen if he works behind an opener again.

Peterson will pitch in bulk relief behind an opener in Monday's series opener in Colorado, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Peterson will follow an opener for the second time this season, last doing so April 19 against the Cubs, when he tossed 3.2 scoreless innings while allowing three hits in the team's 2-1 loss to Chicago. He pitched behind right-hander Tobias Myers in that contest, and although nothing has been announced quite yet, it's certainly possible that Myers will be Monday's opener. Peterson has posted a disappointing 6.53 ERA and 1.71 WHIP with 29 strikeouts over 30.1 innings in seven appearances, including five starts, with New York this season.

Peterson (0-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Nationals, allowing seven runs on five hits and three walks in 3.2 innings. He struck out five. Peterson entered in long relief in his prior two outings, but he didn't fare well in his return to the rotation. The left-hander coughed up a season-worst seven runs Wednesday, walking multiple batters for the fifth time in as many starts on the year. Peterson has a ghastly 6.53 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 29:14 K:BB over 30.1 innings, so he'll be tough to trust in fantasy lineups during his next scheduled outing in Colorado.
