Peterson took a no-decision Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks in 3.2 innings. He struck out one. Following a scoreless second inning, Peterson faltered while working in bulk relief Wednesday. The one strikeout matched a season-low output, and the 30-year-old southpaw also gave up at least four runs for the sixth time already this year. Peterson, who has a rough 5.75 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 57:26 K:BB over 61 innings, is tentatively scheduled to start in Cincinnati his next time out, but it's possible he'll work behind an opener again.

David Peterson: Breaking News
Demoted to bullpen
Peterson has been demoted to the Mets' bullpen, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Peterson has had a disastrous couple months while splitting his time between starting pitcher and bulk reliever, holding a 5.57 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 53:23 K:BB over 53.1 innings. He will be available to pitch in relief beginning Sunday. Sean Manaea is taking Peterson's spot as a starter/bulk reliever.
Implodes against Cincinnati
Peterson (3-5) took the loss against the Reds on Tuesday, allowing six runs on 11 hits and three walks while striking out four across five innings. Peterson put the Mets in a hole early after yielding an RBI double to Eugenio Suarez in the first inning before giving up another three runs in the fourth. It could have been a worse stat line for Peterson, given that he gave up at least two baserunners in four of the six innings he pitched in. The 11 hits he yielded were a season high, and the six earned runs were his most in a start since April 29 against the Nationals (seven). Peterson now sits at a 5.57 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over 53.1 innings this season, and the 66 hits he's given up is tied for fifth-most in the National League. His next start is lined up for next week on the road against the Mariners.
