The New York Mets, as most MLB fans know by now, have lost 10 consecutive games and hold the worst record in baseball. It’s the longest losing streak for the Mets since 2004, and the Mets also lost 10+ games in their inaugural season.

New York (Mets) has scored just 18 runs in their last 10 games and has not won since April 7. It’s a very concerning trend, and wholesale changes need to be made. A recent post on X really puts things in perspective between the New York Mets and Yankees, who compete for the valor of the New York baseball fanbase.

Per the DraftKings X account, the New York Yankees have not lost 10 straight MLB games since 1913. The Mets have lost 10 games during their current atrocious start. It’s pretty hard to lose 10 games in Major League Baseball, but this stat puts things into perspective between the two historic franchises and proves that the Yankees will always own the biggest city in the United States.

And to add insult to injury, the Mets’ payroll is $371 million, which is the second-highest in baseball.

As mentioned, it might be time for wholesale changes to start taking place in Queens, which could mean making a managerial change and blockbuster trades.

Who’s to Blame for the Mets’ Struggles?

But who is to blame for the New York Mets struggles? Is it the lack of offense? David Stearns offseason moves? Or Carlos Mendoza’s managerial strategy?

One could certainly point to Juan Soto being out of the lineup for some of the struggles, but nobody has picked up his slack, which is, of course, hard to do because he’s one of the best hitters in the world, but Francisco Lindor has struggled to open the year, and the additions of Marcus Semien and Luis Robert Jr. haven’t been all that great.

Per Jeff Passan, only four MLB teams have made the playoffs after enduring a 10+ game losing streak during a season:

“Four teams in MLB history have lost 10 or more games in a row and made the playoffs. The last was the Guardians in 2025. Only one of those teams had a skid in April and still made the postseason: the 1951 Giants, who lost 11 consecutive..”
