Toronto Blue Jays fans had better get familiar with Aneudy Severino.
Severino is a member of the Blue Jays’ 2026 International Free Agency class. While he is not the flashiest name on the free agent list, he could be an incredible talent for the organization.
This signing occurs as the Blue Jays look to settle a free agent case (or two) in the coming days. Bo Bichette appears to be all but gone to the Philadelphia Phillies, primarily because of the Blue Jays inability to offer him what the Phillies can. However, fans are on high alert for a potential Kyle Tucker signing coming sooner rather than later.
Here’s everything you need to know about Severino and the latest rumblings on the trade and free agency market.
Toronto Blue Jays Sign Aneudy Severino For $700,000
According to Baseball America, the Blue Jays have signed Severino. The Dominican Republic native was reportedly signed for $700,000.
The Blue Jays transaction page lists Severino as one of 14 contracts signed on January 15, 2026. According to Severino’s profile page, he weighs 203 lbs despite only standing 5-foot-8.
Severino joins the Blue Jays’ international free agency class that includes Juan Caricote, Michael Mesa, Sebastian Casanova, Gabriel Porras, and Ayberson Ortega. Baseball America reports that Toronto spent a combined $5,940,000 on all six players.
Aneudy Severino’s ‘Powerful Build’ & ‘Extraordinarily Strong’
Baseball America has published a scouting report (subscription required) on each player included in the Blue Jays international free agent class.
“Aneudy Severino, signing for $700,000, is a talented player with an unconventional look,” the scouting report states. “At 5-foot-9, he’s on the shorter side, but it’s a powerful build that’s extraordinarily strong for his age. His strength and bat speed allow him to drive the ball with high-end exit velocity from the right side of the plate, albeit with a flatter path for now that’s more conducive to loud line drives than loft.”
“Severino is an above-average runner, though with a thicker body type that should get wider and could lead his speed to back up; there’s a good chance he gravitates to an outfield corner.”
Standing at 5-foot-9 does not prevent Severino from becoming a major-leaguer. The Blue Jays currently have Alejandro Kirk, Myles Straw, Davis Schneider, and Daulton Varsho. All four of those players stand at 5-foot-8 or 5-foot-9.
What’s key to point out in this scouting report is the phrases “powerful build” and “extraordinarily strong for his age.” Having a powerful swing is key to success in the MLB, and should make him a popular prospect to watch for Blue Jays fans.
Trade & Free Agency Speculation
For many following along, today could be the day that Tucker signs with a new team. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, “Folks involved say a deal for No. 1 free agent Kyle Tucker could come as soon as today.”
In light of this, there has been no shortage of X users claiming that Tucker has signed with the Blue Jays. Chief among them is MoccBomb, who tweeted on the morning of January 15, 2026, that the Blue Jays signed Tucker.
This has not been confirmed by a big-name insider or by the Blue Jays.
On the night of January 15, 2026, Heyman had a follow up report regarding Tucker.
He revealed that Tucker’s decision will “most likely come before the weekend.”
Blue Jays Trade Coming Soon?
Mitch Bannon of The Athletic recently wrote about the Blue Jays’ options to acquire infielder depth.
“Toronto could easily bring someone in on a minor-league deal to fill the middle infield gap,” Bannon wrote on January 12, 2026. “But the Jays could also try to move some outfield depth for infield, as Joey Loperfido doesn’t have a clear path to playing time in Toronto next year, and he clearly deserves regular run somewhere.”
Joey Loperfido joins Jose Berrios and Nathan Lukes as potential trade chips at the Blue Jays disposal.
Other Trade Rumblings
MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand has an update on one of the most sought-after pitchers on the trade market.
“According to sources, the Yankees have been talking with the Brewers about a trade for Freddy Peralta,” Feinsand reported on January 14, 2026. “Though no deal was imminent as of Wednesday afternoon.”
The New York Yankees were linked to Tatsuya Imai before he signed elsewhere. The trade route seems like the most reasonable to add another arm to their rotation. After all, they have already traded for Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins.
Blue Jays fans will wait with bated breath to see where Tucker signs. The odds are favorable for the Blue Jays, but anything could happen.
As the free agency and trade markets sort themselves out, at least Toronto fans can look forward to Severino and his potential impact over the next few years.
