The Minnesota Vikings have a decision to make on wide receiver Jordan Addison: Whether to exercise the fifth-year option in his contract and plan for a long-term deal afterward.
Nonetheless, the Vikings will need to conduct further investigation into Addison following the news that emerged on Jan. 13. Addison was taken into custody early on Jan. 12 in Tampa Bay, Florida, marking another legal issue for the young wide receiver. Authorities arrested Addison on a trespassing charge following the incident.
On Jan. 13, Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was asked about Addison’s future, considering the player’s contract situation and latest arrest news.
“We just found that information [about Addison’s arrest], so I don’t want to speak too deeply about it,” Adofo-Mensah said during his end-of-season press conference on Jan. 13. “But obviously, any decision you make with Nailor or anybody else is about the short-term and the long-term of that room. Jordan is unique because 99 percent of the days that Jordan Addison is a Viking, he is a joy to be around. He is incredibly intelligent, confident, [and] responsible.
“Then it’s like all of us; it’s what are you like on those 1 percent of those days? Is it the type of thing that draws attention or not? Obviously, that’s something we have to consider when you’re talking about long-term ramifications of a contract extension and different things like that, or letting somebody like Jalen Nailor leave.
“We’ll have those conversations, obviously, just a few days after the season. And obviously, this event just happened. We have not. But always supportive of Jordan Addison. We’ll continue to back, find, and see what actually happened. And then we’ll have those conversations in the future.”
Details of Jordan Addison’s Arrest
Court records obtained by Heavy show Seminole Indian Police arrested Addison at 3:46 a.m. ET on Jan. 12. The charge was a first-degree misdemeanor for trespassing in an occupied structure or conveyance.
According to a source who spoke with Heavy, the arrest occurred at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, roughly 12 miles from Tampa Bay International Airport. Court documents confirmed that location. Records from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office indicate Addison was released on the afternoon of Jan. 12 at 2:40 p.m. ET after posting a $500 cash bond.
The Vikings receiver is heading into the final year of the current contract. Addison is eligible for the fifth-year option, which would guarantee $17.5 million for the 2027 season. That figure alone surpasses the total value of the four-year, $13.4 million rookie deal.
On the field, Addison has delivered consistent production, averaging 885 receiving yards and totaling 22 touchdowns over 46 career games.
Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell Speaks on Jordan Addison News
Appearing for his end-of-season news conference, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell was asked about Addison’s arrest. O’Connell was not ready to provide a full comment, but said the Vikings will investigate the incident.
“I just learned about that very, very recently, so I don’t want to speculate on that in any way, shape or form,” O’Connell said. “I do think we’ll get as many facts and find out exactly what happened. Speculating at this point would be incredibly premature for me.”
