On Wednesday September 24, 2025, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall missed the Niners’ Wednesday practice due to a knee injury.
This is really troubling news for 49ers fans, as Pearsall has truly been the 49ers’ only truly healthy, dependable receiver throughout the first three games of the season.
Pearsall is having a breakout season as the 49ers’ #1 receiver. He is third in the NFL with 281 receiving yards, on 17.6 yards per reception. He hasn’t found the end zone yet, but was helping the 49ers get the bulk of their yards through the air.
Pearsall was seen limping a little after an awkward fall in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals. When asked about that play, Head Coach Kyle Shanahan said he’s not sure if it caused Pearsall’s injury.
Shanahan also added that he hopes Pearsall feels better “by the end of the week.”
Jauan Jennings Also Missed Practice Due To Injury
To make matters worse, Pearsall wasn’t the only top receiver to get a bad injury update for the 49ers.
Jauan Jennings, who missed Week 3 against Arizona, also missed practice Wednesday with ankle and shoulder injuries.
Jennings injured his shoulder during San Francisco’s Week 1 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, but played in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints.
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk continues to be out, rehabbing a torn ACL, and wide receiver Jordan Watkins also missed practice with a calf injury.
Who Does This Leave The 49ers With At Receiver?
If Pearsall, Jennings, Aiyuk, Watkins, Jacob Cowing and even tight end George Kittle all miss the 49ers’ upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, who is even going to catch the football for the 49ers?
Well, 49ers superstar running back Christian McCaffrey actually leads the team in catches with 25, for 213 yards and a touchdown. He actually has more yards through the air than on the ground so far this season.
Pearsall has the second most catches and of course the most yards, and behind him with the third most catches is undrafted free agent tight end Jake Tonges who has 9 catches for 67 yards and one touchdown, the game winner in Week 1.
Kendrick Bourne, who the 49ers brought back to town, has reacclimated himself with the offense nicely with 7 catches for 70 yards so far in two games.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk is always a threat in the passing game, he has 4 catches for 38 yards and a touchdown so far this season.
To round it out, tight end Luke Farrell, wide receivers Skyy Moore and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and running back Brian Robinson Jr. all have 3 or fewer catches and less than 20 yards. Farrell did find the end zone for his first NFL touchdown against the Saints.
So basically, it’s the Kendrick Bourne show at wideout if all of the injured players are out. And then the whomever plays quarterback for the 49ers will have to look to other positions and get creative.
Speaking of which, injuries also limited QBs Brock Purdy and Mac Jones in practice, so not even they are fully healthy.
What do you think of all this, 49ers fans? Will Kendrick Bourne need to have an all time game on Sunday?
