Veteran welterweight Nate Diaz shared his reaction to the upcoming UFC 329 main event rematch between Conor McGregor and Max Holloway.

Diaz lost via second-round TKO due to corner stoppage against Mike Perry on the MVP MMA: Rousey vs. Carano main card. During the fight, Diaz absorbed slicing blows to his face that saw him get cut open, with blood pouring into his eyes. As a result, his corner elected to stop the bout, which was the right decision.

During the MVP MMA card, the UFC made a special announcement about McGregor’s return fight against Holloway at UFC 329, which takes place on July 11 in Las Vegas. Given that Diaz famously fought McGregor inside the Octagon twice a decade ago, he was the perfect guy to ask what he thinks about the rematch.

Speaking to the media following MVP MMA: Rousey vs. Carano, Diaz was asked what he thinks about the rematch between McGregor and Holloway, and he shared his thoughts.

“That’s going to be a good fight. It’s about time. Shouldn’t they have fought a long time ago? The rematch, right? Cause Conor was taking him down the last time (in 2013), and they both did good. Yeah, that’s going to be a good fight,” Diaz said. “It should have happened a long time ago… we’ll see what happens.”

Nate Diaz Wants Mike Perry Rematch

Speaking of rematches, Diaz said following the loss to Perry that he would like to fight him again, and preferably in Sacramento, California, close to his hometown of Stockton.

“We already talked about the rematch in the cage, right? I thought that’s what’s next? Didn’t they say that in the cage? Rematch him ASAP. Scaremtno, California. Norcal. As soon as possible. Like I said, I’m running it on Monday. I just gotta heal up these cuts, and I’m ready to rock. I’m going to be in shape, though, next time,” Diaz said.

For his part, Perry also said that he was interested in the rematch, and he has no problem taking it in Diaz’s territory in Northern California. So, we will see if MVP MMA does end up holding another one of these massive events on Netflix, because if they do, then this fight makes a ton of sense.

For now, though, as Diaz stated, he needs to heal up after absorbing a ton of punishment against Perry on Saturday night in Inglewood. Although Diaz did connect a few times on Perry, for the most part, he was being backed up and hurt the entire fight, so it’s hard to say that a rematch would go any differently the second time around. That being said, he was paid handsomely by MVP MMA to take this bout, and at age 41, Diaz is likely trying to get as many big paydays as he can before he eventually hangs up his gloves and steps away from the sport that he has competed in for more than 20 years.
