The Royals acquired Krehbiel from the Rays on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Krehbiel has spent all of the 2025 season at Triple-A Durham, where he's collected a 6.11 ERA and 34:10 K:BB over 35.1 innings. The 32-year-old hasn't pitched at the major-league level since 2023 and will represent relief depth at Triple-A Omaha.
The Rays reassigned Krehbiel to minor-league camp Monday. Krehbiel has spent parts of four seasons in the majors, but he pitched exclusively at the Triple-A level in 2024 as a member of the Mariners organization, logging a 3.26 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 58 innings. He caught on with the Rays on a minor-league deal in January, but after falling short in his bid for a spot in the big club's Opening Day bullpen, Krehbiel will likely begin the campaign at Triple-A Durham.
The Rays signed Krehbiel to a minor-league contract Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Krehbiel, 32, spent all of the 2024 season at Triple-A Tacoma in the Mariners organization, holding a 3.26 ERA and 55:25 K:BB over 58 innings. The right-handed reliever has put up a 3.65 ERA and 18.4 percent strikeout rate across parts of four major-league seasons.
