Nate Diaz vs. Marcus Davis Official For UFC 118 Main Card

A welterweight contest between exciting welterweight fighters Nate Diaz and Marcus Davis has been made official for the UFC’s first trip to Boston, Massachusetts set for this August.

The match up was announced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship earlier today. The promotion also confirmed that the bout would be a part of the pay-per-view broadcast.

Diaz, who recently made the move to welterweight after struggling in the 155-pound division, dominated Rory Markham at UFC 111, winning by technical knockout. Following the victory, Diaz faced a controversial situation following the post-fight brawl following the main event of “Strikeforce: Nashville” between Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields and Dan Henderson. Diaz could not be suspended by the Tennessee Athletic Commission for his role in the scuffle, but was fined $7,500. However, the lack of suspension has made his fight with Davis possible.

Davis, who last fought against Jonathon Goulet at UFC 113, winning by technical knockout, made it clear that he wanted a slot on this card ever since rumors circulated that the UFC would be making its way to Massachusetts. The victory over Goulet snapped a two-fight losing streak for Davis, which included his split-decision loss to Dan Hardy and his technical knockout loss to Ben Saunders.

UFC 118 is set for August 28 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The event will mark the promotion’s first trip to the state and features a lightweight championship rematch between BJ Penn and champion Frank Edgar. A contest between boxing legend James Toney and former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Randy Couture is also featured on the evening’s main card.
