Things just keep getting better for LSU football after a 10-point win over Florida in Week 3. LSU head coach Brian Kelly is keeping an eye on the Tigers‘ future as the team remains a top contender in the SEC.

On Monday, September 15, LSU landed a major commitment from four-star quarterback Peyton Houston out of Evangel Christian Academy (Cotton Valley, La.), per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. The Tigers will have to wait a bit to see Houston on the field as the signal-caller is one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting class.

Here’s what you need to know about the future LSU star quarterback.

Future LSU QB Peyton Houston Watched Tigers Top Florida in Week 3

Houston was in Baton Rouge over the weekend to witness LSU’s marquee win over Florida. LSU landed a commitment from Houston over other top college football programs like Oklahoma, USC, Georgia, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Texas.

“My visit was amazing and it was an all-day event,” Houston told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong after his LSU visit in February. “I got to tour every part of the campus with Coach (Trey) Holtz and Coach PK (Patrick Kelly). I also had the chance to talk with all the people I would interact with on a daily basis.

“After the first meeting, we had lunch at Chimes, which was outstanding. Once we got back, I used the VR to see how it helps with reads and processing the game. I then spoke with Doctor (DF) Arnold about how they develop players off the field,” Houston continued.

“I also talked to Coach Kelly about how the day went. To end the day, I met with Coach (Joe) Sloan and saw how I would fit into the offense, how he teaches his quarterbacks, and his standards for quarterbacks both on and off the field.”

LSU Will Be in Search of a QB to Replace Garrett Nussmeier in 2026

LSU received great news early in the offseason when quarterback Garrett Nussmeier chose to return to Baton Rouge over the NFL draft. Yet, Nussmeier is expected to be playing on Sundays in 2026.

This will prompt the Tigers to soon be in search of a new quarterback to lead LSU next season. The Tigers have sophomore Michael Van Buren Jr. and freshman Colin Hurley among the signal-callers on the roster behind Nussmeier.

LSU is still waiting for a marquee quarterback commitment in the 2026 class.

New LSU Football Commit Peyton Houston Is ESPN’s No. 1 Rated QB in 2027 College Football Recruiting Class

Houston is a highly-touted prospect and ESPN’s No. 1 ranked quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class. Houston’s head coach at Evangel Christian Academy believes the quarterback is the “complete package.”

“We’re so impressed with him,” Evangel head coach Denny Duron said of Houston during a September 15, interview with Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman. “He’s the complete package. … His ability to not only throw the ball — but also to constantly work to improve it … He’s a student of the game.

“He never enters a contest and doesn’t know exactly what the opponent is going to do. What he’s been able to evaluate on film … he’s resilient. He’s a gamer. He makes throws he shouldn’t be able to make.”
