Why Is Mike Trout Not on the Team USA World Baseball Classic Roster?

One player who is noticeably absent from the United States roster is Mike Trout. The star outfielder was one of the key players on Team USA in the last World Baseball Classic.

There is an ongoing debate as to why Trout is not on the roster. Trout pointed to his inability to get his contract insured as the deciding factor for not playing in the WBC.

Paul Skenes on World Baseball Classic: ‘I Care Because I’m From America’

Count Skenes among the players who are fired up to represent their country in the World Baseball Classic. Skenes discussed his initial plans to be part of the military as the star pitcher was part of the Air Force for two years before transferring to LSU.

“First and foremost, I care because I’m from America,” Skenes said on MLB Network, per Fox News. “I love America. I’ve seen the WBCs in the past and there’s no bigger stage or no greater honor than wearing USA across your chest.

“And I think the other one, I went to the Air Force Academy for two years. Wanted to serve. I was intending on serving and ended up transferring out to LSU. Won a national championship there, did some cool stuff there. But there was a big part of me that was fully intent on serving in the military as a career after college. So, this is, it’s not serving but it’s a pretty close second.”
