Gabriel Speier: Breaking News

Speier picked up his first save of the season Friday against the Angels, allowing one unearned run with no hits or walks while striking out one across one inning. Speier came on to pitch the 10th inning after Andres Munoz pitched a scoreless ninth inning with three strikeouts. Speier allowed the designated runner Oswald Peraza following a groundout and sacrifice fly but closed the door by striking out Yoan Moncada. Speier (0-1) has a 5.40 ERA and 4:0 K:BB across 3.1 innings to begin the season.

Speier signed a one-year contract with the Mariners to avoid arbitration Thursday,Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Terms of the deal aren't yet known, though Speier earned $845,000 in 2025 -- his first year of arbitration eligibility. He's coming off of an excellent season, maintaining a 2.61 ERA and 0.87 WHIP across 62.0 frames while also earning 24 holds.

Speier allowed one run on one hit in one inning of relief Sunday against the Dodgers, striking out two. Speier's scoreless streak of 10 appearances came to an end, but he'll still finish the regular season with strong numbers overall. Through 62 innings, the southpaw logged a 2.61 ERA, a career-best 0.87 WHIP and 82:11 K:BB. Speier is set to be a major weapon out of the Seattle bullpen during the upcoming postseason.
