Jeremy Sochan recently faced the San Antonio Spurs as a member of the New York Knicks, marking another meeting between the forward and the team that selected him in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Sochan’s first meeting with the Spurs came on June, when the Knicks faced San Antonio in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
Sochan spent the first part of his NBA career with San Antonio before moving to New York during the 2025-26 season. He was part of the Knicks’ championship-winning roster before entering the next stage of his career with the Portland Trail Blazers.
The matchup also gave Sochan a chance to see several familiar faces from his time with the Spurs. His history with the organization made the meeting notable as he continues to adjust to a new team and a new role in the NBA.

Jeremy Sochan admitted that seeing his former teammates and coaches was a positive experience, but he remained focused on treating the matchup as a normal game.
“I’ve talked with a few people about it, like how do I feel? Not really. I’m excited to be around my old teammates and some of the coaches and people around the organization, because at the end of the day, [I was] there for a while. I built really good relationships with a lot of people there,” Sochan said before the game.
Sochan also acknowledged that reconnecting with people from San Antonio felt good, while making it clear that his attention had to remain on the game.
“That part is exciting, that’s a good feeling. But at the end of the day, I have to view this as a normal game and see where that goes.”
During pregame warmups, Sochan was seen embracing several of his former Spurs teammates. He and Victor Wembanyama shared a long hug before the game.
In the latest matchup, the Knicks defeated the Spurs 114-89. Sochan played only two minutes, finishing with one point and one rebound.
His time with New York was limited last season. Sochan appeared in 16 games, averaging 2.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 6.9 minutes per game. He shot 56.7% from the field, 20% from three-point range and 80% from the free-throw line.
Knicks coach Mike Brown continued to express confidence in Sochan’s potential despite his limited role.
“His presence has been great. He’s a fantastic human being. And the neat part about it? He’s 22. This is Year 4 for him,” Brown said.“ … we feel there’s a lot there. He can be a really good player for us.”
Jeremy Sochan Gets New Opportunity With Portland Trail Blazers
Sochan’s next opportunity will come with the Portland Trail Blazers after agreeing to a one-year contract.
The move gives Sochan a chance to compete for a more significant role as he enters his fifth NBA season. Portland is adding a forward known for defensive versatility, physicality and the ability to guard multiple positions.
Sochan spent his first four NBA seasons with San Antonio after the Spurs selected him ninth overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team following his first season.
During his NBA career, Sochan has averaged 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. His most productive season came in 2023-24, when he posted 11.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest.
He has career averages of 47.0% from the field, 28.6% from three-point range and 72.5% from the free-throw line.
Portland’s decision gives Sochan another chance to establish himself after a limited stint with New York. His defensive versatility and ability to contribute in multiple areas could help him compete for a larger role with the Trail Blazers.
