On February 15, 2026 while in Milan to attend Olympic events, Owens described being the target of potential pickpocketing while carrying a shopping bag in Milan. Though the attempted robbery was unsuccessful and Owens maintained possession of his bag, it was a prime example of the prevalence of pickpocketing and bag snatching in Milan and surrounding areas, in accordance with official statements from the U.S. Department of State about the frequency of street crime in Italy.
