He also have one older brother, Keane, according to the outlet Adults Skate Too. “He’s been pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs — fitting for a guy whose career has required constant rebuilding,” they add of him.
His journey in skating started in the men’s singles, but he changed to pairs, and “his athletic build and multi-sport background made him a natural fit as a lifter and thrower,” Adults Skate Too notes. His parents were cheering him on the entire way, so his family has been supportive.

“Family is everything,” he stated in a post on social media on January 10. “Not just the one you’re born into, but the one that shows up, travels miles, sits through long days, believes when it’s hard, and celebrates the small wins and the big ones.”
He adds, “So grateful for my family, the Kam family, and everyone who has poured time, energy, love, and support into this journey. None of this happens alone. Every step on the ice is backed by people who have been there long before the medals and will be there long after.”
His Family Got Him Started in Skating at a Young Age
O’Shea started skating at just four years old. He was moved to start skating after watching the Winter Olympics on TV, according to NPR, so this trip to Milan, Italy, is full circle.
“I went to the Pyeongchang Olympics as an alternate and sat on the outside of the aquarium looking in,” O’Shea told NPR. “Now, sitting here as the attraction, it’s kind of a fun experience.”
He Has Another Member of His Family
O’Shea has a golden doodle named Snow, according to the U.S. Figure Skating site. They add that, “Growing up, in addition to figure skating, played football, soccer and basketball, ran track and learned karate .”
He also, according to the outlet, “enjoys building things with Legos and home improvement projects” and “enjoys hiking, as well as physics and math.”
Danny O’Shea Made It Into the Olympics on His Fourth Try
He and Kam overcame injuries to get the nod to go to Milan, Italy, and compete in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
“It’s been quite a few years of not making the team,” O’Shea said about the run, according to NPR. “This is the fourth Olympic cycle that I’ve been a part of, and the fourth championship event that qualifies for an Olympic team. And I kept believing, and we made it happen.”
