The Indiana Fever suffered another tough loss on Saturday as part of their current five-game road trip. The Fever came up short against the New York Liberty at the Barclays Center.

It was also the first game of a back-to-back, with the Fever flying to the Windy City to visit the Chicago Sky and end their road trip.

Speaking to reporters during the postgame media availability, Caitlin Clark opened up about the Fever’s grueling schedule after their 109-102 loss.

“I mean, like there’s no excuses,” Clark said. “Like yeah, our schedule’s tough, and I think we play more back-to-backs than just about anybody in the league, but you know, it is what it is.”

The Fever have three sets of back-to-back games this season, which is tied for most in the WNBA with the Las Vegas Aces, New York Liberty and Golden State Valkyries.

Their back-to-back sets were on July 8 and 9, July 17 and 18 and August 22 and 23. Sunday’s game will also be their fifth game in seven days. It’s a tough schedule, but it’s also the final stretch of the regular season, so fatigue is going to be a factor.

No Excuses for Clark, Fever

Caitlin Clark also delivered a message about fighting through adversity. They have no excuses for their back-to-back losses to the Dallas Wings and New York Liberty, especially with the way they were playing prior to those games.

Everybody’s tired, everybody’s sore, who cares?” Clark said. “Figure out a way to make yourself feel better and suit up and go play.”

The Indiana Fever were on a five-game winning streak before the two straight defeats. They were sitting third in the WNBA standings, but they are now fifth with six games left in the schedule.

It’s going to be a tough stretch for the Fever, mainly due to the importance of each game moving forward. The Liberty, the Washington Mystics and the Wings are creeping up behind them, with 2.5 games separating Indiana and the No. 8 seed.

The Indiana Fever’s offense remained on-point against the New York Liberty, scoring 102 points. It was their defense as usual, allowing 108 points, that doomed them in the end.

Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston didn’t disappoint, combining for 68 points on Saturday. They also got 10 points each from Makayla Timpson and Sophie Cunningham.

Another issue in the Fever’s loss was they missed 11 free throws, which were eventually a difference-maker. They went 11-for-22 from the charity stripe, compared to the Liberty’s 24-for-29.

The Fever will need to improve their defense and make their free throws if they want to avoid playing on the road in the first round of the 2026 WNBA playoffs.
