Heavy is live at San Diego Comic-Con 2013 bringing you the latest news on panels, screenings and everything pop culture!
In an hour long panel at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, the cast and crew of Dexter came to say hi to the 7,000 fans that filled up Hall H. Here’s what you need to know about Dexter’s San Diego Comic-Con panel.
1. There Were a Ton of Surprise Guests
In the final Comic-Con panel for Showtime’s hit TV show Dexter, a number of surprise guest showed up to express their gratitude to their fans.
Among them included Aimee Garcia, Desmond Harrington, David Zayas, Yvonne Strahovski, Lauren Vélez, Erik King, Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter, and the show’s star, Michael C. Hall.
John Lithgow couldn’t make it but sent a video message to the fans at Comic-Con. “I wish i could be there with you today but as you all know i’m dead… I wish I can tell you how dexter ends but they tell me nothing. Maybe michael can tell us?” No dice, Trinity Killer; Hall remained tight-lipped about the series finale.
2. They Played a Montage of “Dexter’s Greatest Kills”
In a fun little video presentation, fans were treated to a short clip of “Dexter’s Greatest Kills,” which replayed a number of the most famous kills in Dexter, including the Trinity Killer, etc. It was a great send off for one of the most twisted characters in television history.
3. The Cast Talked About the Series Ending
In a montage before the panel, the cast of Dexter spoke about their fans’ rabid support.
Hall said, “There’s a sense of nostalgia already…I didn’t imagine so many people would jump on the Dexter train and thats something i’m very proud of.”
Jennifer Carpenter, who plays Debra on the show, spoke as well, saying, “We’re going out the way we intended to go out, it feels just right.”
To close the montage, James Remar said “If the fans are anything like the cast and crew they’re going to miss Dexter alot.”
The Trinity Killer, John Lithgow, appeared in the montage as well, where he said Dexter has the “best fan base of any show he’s ever been on.” And, if you recall, Lithgow starred on the cult-favorite 3rd Rock From The Sun.
4. Here’s What you can Expect in the Final Season
The stars remained mum on any details on the eighth season of Dexter, which is hard since the cast and crew filmed the final episode of Dexter just last week. However we did get a few details.
Hannah will be in the final season. “We don’t know when. We don’t know her revenge…oops I mean motivation. What I meant to say was no one knows whether her motivation is based on revenge or love or what…” said Strahovski.
We get to meet Dr. Vogel this season as well, played by Charlotte Rampling. According to Hall, Vogel “reframes the origin story of Dexter.” Not much is known about the character, but we essentially get to see the birth of “Harry’s Code,” the code that Dexter’s Dark Passenger lives by.
5. They Also Announced A Big Surprise
Before the panel started, Showtime announced that the final season of Dexter will be available on November 5th, 2013. Not only that, but you can also preorder “Dexter: The Complete Series” right now! The complete series will be available on DVD on November 5th as well. According to the panel, the DVD’s will have “killer bonus disc of new special features and exclusive art of the Dexter books.”
