The two met on the set of The Green Lantern and married in September of 2012.
Here’s what you need to know about their fairytale of a love story.
1. They’re Best Friends
In an interview with Marie Claire, she gushed:
We’ve never gone a week without seeing each other. There’s no major decision that I make without him. The best part is when we turn off our phones and just talk and hang out. He’s my best, best friend. What do you do with your best friend? You do nothing.
2. They Were in Long-Term Relationships

Reynolds married Scarlett Johansson in Vancouver in 2008 when the actress was only 23. The two maintained a very low profile during the few years they stayed together.
In December of 2010, they announced their split, officially stating, “We entered into our relationship with love, and it’s with love and kindness we leave it.”
Relationships ending move you from who you were to who you are at a much more accelerated rate than almost anything else on Earth. . . Departing a relationship and still maintaining the idea that this is still the same person I married is a great luxury that I experienced. Thankfully, I was in a relationship where two people chose to remain on the high road in every regard.
Johansson responded to the divorce question in C Magazine:
It’s like the loneliest thing you’ll ever do, in some ways. I’ve had a fair amount of time to process the experience and go forward. I continue to get to know myself better as I get older, and that helps me in my relationships.
As Serena van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl for six seasons, Lively met her ex, Penn Badgley, who played Dan Humphrey.
They dated for two years while working on the drama, and Badgley told Elle, “We were very much caught up in the show, which itself was a six-year endurance test. Our relationship was a part of that and helped us through it. I mean, like anything valuable, it was good and it was bad and it was a learning experience.”
3. They Want Lots of Kids
In an interview with Vogue, Lively said of her husband, “He’s going to be a great father and leader and patriarch — he’s so meant to be all of those things. The fact that he lived so much before we got together, he’s the exact realized person that he should be. And so I get to share my life with the person he’s become, and we get to grow from there.”
“I gotta get started. If I could spit out a litter of kids, I would,” the 26-year-old told Marie Claire.
Reynolds shares the desire for a bunch of children, and told Details, “We both come from big families – my parents did four, Blake’s did five,” he describes. “A lot of people say it’s crazy, but we’ll only know when we’re there, you know? We’ll walk through that fire pretty happily, I think.”
4. They Married in Secret

The ceremony was at Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina and kept very private.
When they were having problems organizing their wedding, they called in an expert- Martha Stewart.
“Our wedding was becoming a disaster, and we didn’t know what to do, so we called Martha! She said, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.’ She sent her team down to save us. And then she called her friends who have a home in South Carolina and set us up at the most amazing getaway. This is the day of our wedding,” Lively told Vogue.
After the nuptials, Martha Stewart Weddings published an exclusive sneak peek into the day, complete with the cake they served and Lively’s gown.
5. Blake Burned a Hole in Her Wedding Dress
Florence Welch performed at the couple’s wedding and the crowd held sparklers.
During the show, Lively burned a hole in her wedding dress, and was, as to be expected, upset about it. That all changed when Reynolds gave his take on the situation.
She told Vogue how her husband calmed her down:
Florence Welch was singing at the reception, and they brought out these sparklers, and I’m watching her sing. I look down and my wedding dress has a big burn mark from one of the sparklers. Right on the front! And it was just so heartbreaking to me. And later, my dress was hanging up and Ryan said, ‘Isn’t that beautiful?’ I said, ‘What?’ And he pointed to the burn. My heart just stopped, because it was such a sensitive little subject. And he said, ‘You’ll always remember that moment with Florence singing and the sparklers. You have that forever, right there, preserved.’ Now that’s my favorite part of the dress.
