Joshua Davis is one of the most well-rounded artists on The Voice this season and, like other contestants, he had a band prior to joining the show. His band is quite the large group as it consists of Joshua Davis - Songs, vocals, guitars, pianos; Jen Sygit - Vocals; Laura Ann Bates - Vocals; Mike Lynch - Hammond organ, Wurlitzer, Hohner Clavinet; Geoff Lewis - Drums, box; Zak Bunce - Bass; Dominic John Davis - Bass; and Mike Shimmin - Percussion. Davis hails from Michigan and has an adorable little baby named Theo who he misses terribly as he competes on The Voice. Davis is married and has another child as well - a daughter. Whatz Up describes Davis' music style as this: Joshua Davis brings a world-weary croon filled with the gravitas and forthrightness of a Tom Petty or a Peter Case, combines it with relevant lyrics... that could exist alongside any Ryan Adams or Son Volt ditty.
Davis was raised in a folk culture, from the music to the social movements to the land. He enjoys blending American tradition with rock n’ roll and vintage soul. According to his Facebook bio: For over 15 years Joshua has made his living sharing his songs, stories and knowledge across the US and Canada at festivals, concert halls, coffeehouses and dives – as a solo act, front man for roots ensemble "Steppin’ In It", classic swing band "Shout Sister Shout", songwriter showcase band "The Starlight Six" and frequently as a workshop facilitator, presenter or instructor. His music is steeped in ragtime blues, sweet jazz and real country but Davis’s broad schooling in the cultural, political and musical roots of American tradition has resulted in more than a simple retelling of universal themes. Dubbed, "the Michigan version of the Great American Songscape" (Chris Reitz, Elderly Instruments), his catalog is a seamless snapshot of American past and present. Davis has three critically acclaimed solo albums, five albums with Steppin’ In It, a record of jazz standards with Shout Sister Shout, and has been featured on many other artists' albums as well. In addition to being a performer, Davis is a brilliant music producer with a home studio, where he's worked with Grammy and Oscar-winning producers as well as audio engineers Glenn Brown, Sally Van Meter and David Glasser.
