A leaked video showing Los Angeles Lakers player Nick Young confess to cheating on his fiancé Iggy Azalea with a 19-year-old girl may have gone public due to a feud between Azalea and Nicki Minaj. The blogger for the website “Fameolous” that posted the video online claims Nicki Minaj’s camp sent the video in response to comments the “Fancy” singer made during her appearance on What What Happens Live on March 23.
Young’s teammate D’Angelo Russell recorded the video and Fameolous hinted in an interview with ESPN Houston 97.5 FM that Russell and Minaj filmed the video to help Young get out of his relationship with Azalea.
Here’s everything you need to know.
1. Nicki Minaj’s Camp May Have Leaked The D’Angelo Russell Video
Russell originally posted the incriminating video of Young admitting he cheated on Azalea to his Snapchat, the Fameolous blogger told ESPN Houston. While it was live, a member of Nicki Minaj’s camp saw it and forwarded the video to the celebrity gossip site as retribution for Azalea’s comments on Watch What Happens Live last week.
Somebody from Nicki Minaj’s camp a source, got the video and they sent it in. And they said here put this out because Iggy want to talk mess about Nicki Minaj, put this out and let her know what her fiance is doing… It had nothing to do with the basketball players.
Azalea argued to WWHL host Andy Cohen that Minaj isn’t the only person writing her songs as the “Anaconda” rapper claimed in her acceptance speech for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the 2014 BET Awards.
I have just as many people on my writing credits as she has on hers. I know I write mine, and if she writes hers, I believe her too. But you can’t look at the credits and be like, ‘Oh look at this massive difference!’ It’s the same number of people on both.
During the interview with ESPN Houston, the Fameolous writer’s partner said “there’s more to come.” It’s unclear if she meant more on Nicki Minaj’s involvement or more exclusives from their website.
2. Nicki Minaj Threw Shade at Iggy Azalea in Her 2014 BET Awards Speech
Minaj is never one to keep her mouth shut and she made clear in her acceptance speech at the 2014 BET Awards that she writes her own songs. Many speculated Minaj was calling out Azalea when she accepted the award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and said, “What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it.” She added later in the speech, “I hope and pray that BET continues to honor authenticity.”
It was widely rumored that Azalea used ghostwriters on her debut album, “The New Classic.” She responded to Minaj’s speech on her Instagram a few days after the awards show but she was more upset about the “pettiness online” rather than what Minaj said. In the caption she wrote:
This is my mind state about everything & the only time I’m ever going to refer to this again so go nuts guys, Enjoy it. Ps. If you squint exxxtra hard you can see tiny elves having illuminati meetings between the lines in my notes app too.
3. Azalea Tweeted That She “Liked” the Video Captured by Russell
Soon after the video by Russell leaked online, Azalea didn’t hesitate to comment. She tweeted that she “liked his film” and then thanked her fiancé’s teammate for recording it.
hmmm i see D Angelo Russell is trending… I actually liked his film. Thanks bro.

In the video, Russell questioned Young about his various relationships while still dating Azalea. Young admitted to hooking up with a 19-year-old girl when he was 30, but said he never tried anything with Amber Rose because “she know my girl,” referring to Azalea.

4. Russell Says He Apologized to Young for Taking the Video
The leaked video has caused major headaches inside the Lakers’ locker room. Not only are Russell’s teammates angry with him, the fans have also turned on him, greeting him with boos during player introductions on Wednesday before facing the Miami Heat at home. The rookie point guard addressed the media after the game and said he felt “as sick as possible” over the situation.
I can’t really show my face anywhere without people hating me right now. I don’t know. I try to handle it the right way and remember why I’m here, which is to play basketball.
He also commented on his actions before the Heat game and is afraid he has irreparably damaged Young’s engagement to Azalea.
I’ve always been known as a guy that plays around a lot, and he has been, too. To be around somebody that’s similar, with the same similar characteristics, is different. He’s one of the guys that I’ve always talked to about anything, and I cherished our friendship. For me to have an incident like this come up and put it in jeopardy is not what I was intending to do.
Russell said he apologized to Young, but hasn’t heard from his teammate. He understands if Young never forgives him for recording the video in the first place. Young also addressed the media and plans to handle any strife he has with Russell internally.
I think it’s best that me and D’Angelo handle the situation we have in a private manner outside the media. I think it’s something we really do need to sit down and talk about. That’s about it. What happened is what happened. We’ve got to work on it.
5. Azalea and Young Got Engaged in June 2015
Young proposed to Azalea at his 30th birthday party in June 2015. A guest at the party captured the proposal, which involved a massive ring box for a huge engagement ring, on video. The rapper immediately said yes when her boyfriend popped the question.

The couple has not commented on the status of their relationship since the video leaked except for Azalea’s tweet thanking Russell for filming it. They had planned to get married at the end of this year, but Azaela’s upcoming tour to promote her new album, “Digital Distortion,” forced them to push the date until 2017 as did Young’s basketball schedule. She revealed the scheduling plans during an On Air with Ryan Seacrest interview.
It was gonna happen at the end of the year, but now I have to go to work. We’ll probably have to wait until the end of the next basketball season to do that. So that kind of is a bit sucky, but it’s all right.
