Nev Schulman and his fiancé Laura Perlongo announced their engagement in an Instagram post over the weekend. The announcement comes just two weeks after Perlongo took to Instagram with another exciting update about their relationship. Read on to find out more about the lady who stole the Catfish star’s heart.
1. She Wrote a Very Candid Blog About the Pregnancy
A link in Perlong’s Instagram profile (and Nev’s profile as well) leads to a very frank post about what it was like dealing with the pregnancy. She begins by saying, “Hi. My name is Laura Perlongo and I’m pregnant accidentally on purpose.” Her writing chronicles the entire experience, from the night she took the pregnancy check, to how decided she wanted the baby, to what her friends had to say about all of it. Eventually, she sums up the post by saying, “I’m writing this because I believe baby-making times are strange for the growing population of girls like me (and most modern couples for that matter) and we shouldn’t feel dumb talking about the stuff that makes us wonder if we should stop procreating altogether.”
2. She Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University
According to Perlongo’s LinkedIn account, she graduated from Boston University with a BS in Commercial and Advertising Art, and a BA in Social Psychology, in 2007. You can check out her marketing and advertising website here.
3. She’s a Freelance Copywriter and Photographer
Since graduating from BU, the 30-year-old has worked as a staff writer for Haute Living Magazine, a communications director for ABS Notebooks in Quebec, and a travel writer for Party Earth. Her LinkedIn summary reads, “Freelance millenial-focused creative based in New York & La”. She doesn’t have a steady job, but also says that she doesn’t want a steady job.
4. Her Instagram Profile Pic is a Sonogram
Though the 30-year-old admits that she and Nev have no idea what they’re doing, she says they’re very excited for what’s in store. “… Nev and I certainly have no idea what we’re doing, we just know we’re doing something we want to be doing. Hopefully we don’t suck at it or turn into know-it-all zombies. Mainly we’re just really happy and excited.”
5. She’s Been Dating Nev Long-Distance For 7 Months
In her blog, Perlongo writes, “Sure, we’d only been dating long-distance 7 months (with a break in August) but we were optistic and in love. It felt good a time as ever.”
Unfortunately, a lot of her friend’s didn’t take well to the pregnancy, and Perlongo says she was “heartbroken” by some of their horrified responses. “It’s not that I didn’t understand where they were coming from. I’m a career-driven girl who did all the things to suggest ‘not settling down’ until my late thirties. I don’t even have curtains.” Perlongo believes that many millenials sometimes feel like they need to “adhere to a modern version of [their] parents footsteps…”, but she was surprised by how shocked her friends were when she told them she wasn’t going to be one of those cases.
