Trouble is brewing for actor and popular internet personality Jake Paul.
Paul, 20, rose to popularity through social media videos and starred as “Dirk” on the Disney Channel show Bizaardvark. However, the acting role came to an abrupt end July 22, when the company decided to drop Paul mid-season presumably because of of his antics at his West Hollywood home. Paul noted on Twitter that it was a mutual agreement to allow him to focus on videos for his over over 8 million YouTube subscribers.
Disney released a statement on the matter later in the day confirming the news, but not giving a reason for it.
Presumably, the reason for the departure is because of recent reports that Paul and his friends have been terrorizing the Hollywood neighborhood where he rents a home.
A news report by KTLA said neighbors accuse Paul of being loud and performing stunts that endanger the neighborhood.
Even with his 18 months on the Disney show coming to an end, Paul has developed quite a solid monetary base with his numerous projects and a massive following on social media.
Here’s what you need to know about Paul’s net worth:
1. Paul Developed a Following Through Vine
Paul found huge success using the social media platform Vine. He started posting many popular 6-second video clips to Vine when he was 15-years old and he had 5.3 million followers by the time it shut down in January. Paul grew in popularity alongside his brother Logan, who also had a Vine account and also posted many videos that went viral.
In addition to the over 5 million followers, Jake had almost 2 billion video plays on the application when it shut down.
Jake told People in 2016 that when they were on Vine, they were making a ton of money.
“Within six months we were making more money than our parents,” Jake said to the publication.
After Vine went out of business, Jake transferred his social media following to other platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook.
“Vine was super, super popular a couple years ago. And it’s on its dwindling edges, along with Twitter, but they are both still very powerful platforms. And it is just about translating your content onto other platforms,” Paul said to CNBC. “Now Instagram and Facebook and Snapchat are super popular, and so I just create content on those platforms and grow an audience there.”
2. Paul’s West Hollywood Home Costs $17K per Month to Rent
After his rise in popularity as only a junior in high school, Jake saw opportunity and moved to Los Angeles with his brother to pursue a career in show business.
Eventually, Jake formed a company called Team 10, which, according to its website, is “a squad of young, like-minded individuals who teams up together to take over Hollywood.”
The group performs various stunts and comedic videos for its almost 2 million subscribers. Most of those stunts take place at a home Jake rents in Beverly Grove near Melrose and Kilkea.
Mic reported that Team 10 and Jake use the home “as ground zero for loud parties and for some of his stunts, including lighting a pile of furniture on fire in the house’s drained pool and popping wheelies on a dirt bike on the street.”
Curbed Los Angeles reported that Jake has been living in the “McMansion-style contemporary” home since Jun 2016. MLS records show that the rent on the home is $17,459 per month and it’s described as having five bedrooms and five bathrooms.
3. Paul Makes Around $32K Per Day on YouTube
Jake landed the role on Disney’s Bizaardvark in 2016, and that coincided with his huge takeoff on YouTube. He typically poses vlogs, stunts and pranks onto his YouTube channel, where he has 8.8 million followers.
Naibuzz.com reported that Jake has a net worth of around $7.5 million. The website reported that his YouTube channel is growing at a rate of almost 30,000 new subscriptions per day, and it’s generated over 2 billion cumulative views and an average of 6 million per day.
Estimates with revenue from advertisements show that Jake’s YouTube channel earns somewhere around $32,000 per day, which equates to a whopping $12 million per year.
4. Paul’s Company, Team 10, Makes Around $350 Per Day
When Jake launched Team 10 last year, the goal was to showcase the group of friends and create daily content that entertained subscribers. It’s safe to say that the company has done that, as it continues to grow in popularity.
The channel has nearly 2 million subscribers thus far and gets about 200,000 views on its YouTube videos per day. While it’s not nearly as much as Jake makes on his personal channel, advertisement revenue of around $360 per day equates to around $130,000 earned by the company annually.
Generally, YouTube users get between $2 to $5 per 1000 monetized views after the company takes its cut.
Jake has made the address to Team 10 headquarters known to its fans, who often flock outside of the home and wait for Paul and friends.
5. Paul’s Brother is Also a Millionaire
Jake isn’t the only one in the family that’s found massive success on the internet. It was actually his brother Logan that rose in popularity on Vine before Jake. But once the company shut down, Jake was able to transfer his followers to other plaforms for continued success — and appearing on a Disney show helped too.
Logan started uploading video clips to YouTube by the time he was 10, it was called Zoosh at the time, Gazette Review reported.
Logan now has 8.5 million YouTube subscribers and frequently hangs out and makes videos with his brother. He has over 82 million cumulative views on his personal YouTube channel. He also has other YouTube channels and has also played small roles on a few TV shows.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Logan has a current net worth of around $3 million.
