Ranger Suarez: Everything you need to know

Suarez did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Yankees, allowing a run on six hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out six. It was a strong effort from Suarez, who made it through six innings for the first time since April 27, as he held the Yankees scoreless until Paul Goldschmidt's two-out, RBI single in the fifth. Suarez had been struggling coming into the day, allowing nine runs over 10 innings in his previous two outings. Overall, his ERA sits at 3.18 with a 1.14 WHIP and 63:19 K:BB across 12 starts (65 innings) this season. Suarez is tentatively lined up to face the Rangers at home in his next start.

Suarez took a no-decision Sunday against the Guardians, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out 10. Sunday was certainly a mixed bag for Suarez, who gave up a season-worst eight knocks but did match a season high with 10 strikeouts. The 30-year-old southpaw remains without a quality start since the end of April, having now worked at least six innings just three times in 11 outings this year. Suarez still has a respectable 3.38 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 57:19 K:BB over 59.2 frames, but he's lined up for a difficult matchup next weekend against the division-rival Yankees in New York.

Suarez (2-3) took the loss Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts across five-plus innings. Suarez dealt with traffic on the bases in the second, third and fourth innings but went into the fifth with a 2-0 lead before Atlanta broke through on a Matt Olson two-run homer. Suarez then came out for the sixth inning but allowed the first three batters to reach before being pulled from the game at 91 pitches. Suarez entered Tuesday's start having allowed just one run on 11 hits and five walks with 14 strikeouts across 13.2 innings this month. However, Suarez has failed to go six innings in any of his last four outings and has done so just three times in 10 starts this season. On the year, he owns a 3.02 ERA and 47:17 K:BB across 53.2 innings. With a 91.1 mph fastball and 20th percentile whiff rate (21 percent), Suarez relies on command and inducing weak contact.
