The buildup for Payback is taking shape heading in to this week’s SmackDown. (Instagram)
The WWE is still taking Europe by storm and that means that this week’s SmackDown is coming to us from jolly old England. Or London, if you want to be just a bit more specific.
The build-up for Payback is starting to hit a serious stride and the rivalries that are taking shape are making us pretty darn excited for the May event. It also provided us with a pretty jam-packed SmackDown this week.
Read on for a complete look at the spoilers from the latest event, which will air at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday:
- WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz and Maryse open up SmackDown with a new “episode” of MizTV. AJ Styles comes out and makes sure the audience knows he’s not to blame for the attack by Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson on Roman Reigns during RAW.
- Ryback defeated WWE United States Champion Kalisto in a non-title match.
- AJ Styles defeated The Miz. The Miz tried to leave the match at one point, but was stopped by Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. The two stare down with Styles after he wins.
- The Miz is not particularly pleased with his loss after the match and remains in the ring, demanding an investigation. Shane McMahon interrupts before going on to basically beat up The Miz. The audience loves it.
- Paige and Natalya defeated Tamanina Snuka and Naomi with double Sharpshooters.
- R-Truth took down Fandango with Goldust appearing as a special referree.
- Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady cut a promo in the ring before The Vaudevillains interrupt from the stage. The group shares a few words – but don’t fight – ahead of their tournament finals match at Payback.
- Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens defeat Sami Zay and Dean Ambrose in the main event.
