Despite a rough stretch at home over the past week (back-to-back series losses to bottom dwellers in the Los Angeles Angels and Athletics at home), the Houston Astros somehow still have a lead in the AL West with a 65-66 record.
The Houston Astros have had a really hard time pitching since the All-Star break, and while they’ve been able to pick up wins here and there, the issue is too large to ignore. Next up on the Astros’ schedule is a date with the New York Yankees (on the road). It will be a tough challenge for Houston, as it must escape New York with at least one win. The Astros have Monday off, and the series will begin on Tuesday.
With that being said, before the Astros decided to part ways with GM Dana Brown (on Monday morning), Houston made a quiet roster move in their minor-league system.

Houston Astros Promote Alberto Hernandez to AAA
In a minor-league transaction, the Houston Astros are promoting 22-year-old infielder Alberto Hernandez to AAA Sugar Land.
His transaction tracker reflects the roster move: “SS Alberto Hernandez assigned to Sugar Land Space Cowboys from Corpus Christi Hooks.”
Hernandez, 22, has swiftly made his way through the Astros minor league system thus far. He is from Nueva Gerona, Cuba.
In 2026, Hernandez is batting .269 in 108 at-bats with four home runs and 20 RBI.
With AA Corpus Christi, Hernandez logged 59 at-bats in 20 games, and he batted .271 with an OPS of .769.

For his entire minor league career, Hernandez has batted .228 with 959 at-bats.
The fact that he’s been called up to the AAA level could signal a roster move looming with the Astros big-league squad in the coming days.
Despite being in Triple-A at 22 years old, Hernandez is not ranked in the top-30 of Astros prospects.
Here are more of Hernandez’s stats across his five seasons: 134 runs, 219 hits, 13 home runs, 131 RBI, 46 stolen bases, OPS of .652.
