The Las Vegas Raiders are looking to meet with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak for a second interview.
ESPN’s Peter Schrager reported on Jan. 28 that the Raiders and Arizona Cardinals have the chance to meet with Kubiak again before the Super Bowl, and the expectation is that both teams will take it this weekend.
With the Silver and Black potentially meeting with Kubiak again for a second interview, former Raiders standout Kirk Morrison shared his take on the Seahawks coach, who could be the next head coach in Las Vegas.
“I think he checks a lot of the boxes,” Morrison said on the Jan. 28 edition of “Upon Further Review.” “You saw his offense not only just on the NFC conference championship game, but also throughout the whole entire season.
“I think even bigger is that you saw the offense uh with Sam Darnold who’s been a quarterback that’s bounced around the league and you know had success last year in Minnesota and really found a home you know in Seattle.”
In Year 1 with Sam Darnold as the Seahawks’ QB, Darnold has had a passer rating of 99.1 with 4,048 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions in 17 games for Seattle this season with Kubiak as offensive coordinator, per Stat Muse.
Klint Kubiak Could Revitalize Las Vegas’ Offense
Moreover, Morrison revealed that the way Kubiak has been able to turn this Seahawks offense into a well-oiled machine, especially in the playoffs, have teams like the Raiders salivating at what he could do for them.
“I think what also intrigues me about Klint Kubiak is that it seems that he’s the kind of coach that has a system and a scheme that gets guys open, that gets guys to be at their best, and understanding that whatever the defense presents, you can have options. You can have things at your disposal.
“We’re going off one of the best job interviews in terms of what’s happened in these games so far in the playoffs, and his offense has done pretty darn good, led them to a Super Bowl. So now you’re kind of envisioning what that would look like for your football team if you’re the Raiders. And that’s kind of where the excitement has kind of come from.”
The Latest News on the Raiders’ Head Coach Search
In the latest update on the Silver and Black’s search for their new head coach, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Jan. 27 that the front office is nowhere close to finding their guy.
“The Las Vegas Raiders are still planning on another interview with a candidate this week,“ Russini wrote on X. “They have yet to make a decision at head coach.”
Meanwhile, on Jan. 27, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the latest regarding the future of the Denver Broncos’ offensive pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
“After Broncos passing game coordinator and QB coach Davis Webb interviewed this week for the Raiders and [Buffalo] Bills head coaching jobs, he received interview requests for offensive coordinator jobs with the [Philadelphia] Eagles, [New York] Giants, and [Baltimore] Ravens,“ Schefter wrote on X.
