Brock Bowers will be looking to replicate his 112 receptions, 1,194 receiving yards, and five touchdowns for the Las Vegas Raiders in his rookie season. The 22-year-old will look to hit the ground running against the New England Patriots.
The Raiders will have a new signal-caller in Geno Smith, so Bowers could take his game to another level with the veteran. Moreover, former NFL player James Jones is expecting a major game from Bowers against the Patriots in Week 1.
While speaking on “The Silver and Black Show,” James Jones said, “The Patriots cannot stop Bowers,” who is poised for a big game in New England.
“He’s really unguardable,” Jones said. “You know, he’s big and fast. You can’t push small corners on him. Even if [Christian] Gonzalez was there and you thought about traveling Gonzalez with him, he’s too small for him.”
Can Anyone on the Patriots Stop Raiders’ Brock Bowers?
Jones continued with his not-so-good outlook for the Patriots and their potential plan to contain the Raiders’ star. While Jones noted that putting a corner on Bowers wouldn’t stop the player, he also stated that a linebacker wouldn’t fare any better against the Georgia product.
“Brock is able to have a lot of range and make tough catches,” Jones added. “And then you put the linebackers on him, they’re too slow. and then Brock could block and he could you could spread him out wide. So, I really think he’s unguardable, especially if you have other weapons around him that’s really, you know, demanding a little bit of attention.
“And I think we’re going to have that this year, especially with [Ashton] Jeanty in the backfield and Jacobe and those guys on the outside. It’s going to be tough to guard Brock because if you want to double him, then how you going to stop the run?”
The Patriots will be ushering in a new era of their own in Week 1 with head coach Mike Vrabel taking over the job. Nonetheless, the squad, especially the defense, is a work in progress, and that’s where the Las Vegas offense could look to take advantage with its weapons.
Brock Bowers’ Mindset in Year 2
From a July 17 article on the Raiders’ official website, Bowers noted that he continues pushing himself despite his impressive rookie season.
“I’m just really big into winning every single rep and like trying to do that in the offseason,” Bowers said. “During OTAs I’m trying to do that and just pisses me off when I don’t do that. So, it just pushes me to get better in every single facet I think. Because I feel like there’s not one thing I did great, but not one thing I did super duper bad. I’m just trying to elevate everything.”
It will be interesting to see if all the offseason work allows Bowers to not just replicate his impressive season but surpass it. Smith is already an upgrade at quarterback for the Silver and Black, so the potential for Bowers to exceed his production from last season isn’t a wild idea.
