When the final horn sounded and the gold medal was secured, it wasn’t just another hockey victory – it was a family moment for brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes. And needless to say, Quinn Hughes is a very proud big brother as it was his younger brother Jack’s goal that won the game and is now bringing home the gold medal for the United States of America!
After the game-winning goal, Quinn Hughes revealed his thoughts about his little brother’s success on the ice in helping Team USA win the gold medal. Here’s what Quinn had to say about Jack Hughes just moments after the USA beat Canada.

Shortly after the United States secured the gold medal, Quinn Hughes spoke with broadcast reporters for Eurosport, where he gave the following statement:
“I’m just proud, obviously. He’s gone through a lot with two shoulder surgeries and he just loves the game more than anyone and all he wants to do is be healthy and play. And I think in this tournament he showed he’s one of the best players in the world, clearly, and just persevering at such a young age. I mean, he’s only 24 and I don’t think people understand how hard it is when you go through things like that.”
Together, the brothers stood as two of 25 American men who were bestowed with Olympic gold medals they can now proudly wear around their necks as they return home to the United States following the Closing Ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.

Jack Hughes and Quinn Hughes have always been known by teammates for how well and wholesomely the brothers support one another. The gold medal goal moment by Jack was no different as it was observed – both in the Olympic arena and by viewers watching broadcasts of the game – how quickly Quinn Hughes rushed to congratulate his brother and how exceptionally proud, happy, and ecstatic the older brother was in the moments after the game was won.
The USA-Canada gold medal match was played on the anniversary of not only the 1980 Miracle on Ice matchup between the United States and the Soviet Union, but also on the anniversary of the USA’s first gold medal win in men’s ice hockey at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. The U.S. men’s hockey team now has three gold medals to their collective legacy, not to mention an iconic last minute overtime goal that won it all and was scored by Jack Hughes!
The gold medal in men’s ice hockey brings the total medal count for Team USA to a grand total of 33 medals with 12 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and nine bronze medals won by American athletes.
