The 35-year-old now lives in the greatest city in the world and just got cast in a TV show there.
Here’s all you need to know about the actress and fashionista who started her career as Joey Potter.
1. She’s Returning to TV as a Manhattan Socialite
According to Us Weekly, the Dawson Creek alum is making a TV comeback.
The new ABC series, written by Richard LaGravenese, the man who penned Behind the Candelabra, is set on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
This is her first recurring TV role since Dawson’s Creek ended in 2013.
2. She Left Her Fashion Label
In 2009, the actress joined forces with Jeanne Yang to create the luxury designer collection, Holmes and Yang.
Back in 2012 she told Elle, “I have such an appreciation for the fine details and the amount of work it takes. I really appreciate clothing and designers so much more. It’s made shopping even better.”
However, it was reported this month that Holmes has ended her association with the label.
I loved every minute of my time working on Holmes & Yang. I remain passionate about the design aesthetic we created, and am so happy with what Jeanne and I accomplished. However I am now concentrating on acting and motherhood, which did not leave the label the time and attention it deserved. I’m really thrilled that the final showcase for Holmes & Yang is in Elle – I had a blast at my shoot for the magazine. It is fantastic to feel like it’s ending on a high.
3. She Played Jackie Kennedy in 2011
Holmes, who played Jackie opposite Greg Kinnear as JFK, told Elle she was devoted to the iconic role:
I worked as hard as I could, because I loved her. On set there was this feeling that we had to create something very special, because these people were very special.
Throughout her research into Kennedy’s life, she developed a deep appreciation for her character.
I didn’t realize that she had lost a child in August and then [Jack] was assassinated in November. I couldn’t believe it. She had so much strength….I loved her love of family, how important it was for her to be a good mother.
4. She Feels Sexier in Her 30s
In a now famous interview she did with Elle, she dished on the fact that she feels more whole as she gets older.
She described her new phase to the magazine:
I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin. I feel sexier. I think in my twenties – it’s like you’re trying too hard to figure everything out…I’m starting to come into my own. It’s like a new phase.
She also hinted at the demise of her marriage to Tom Cruise:
He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years. I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that.
