Thanks to the third and final presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, NBC’s Law & Order: SVU will not be airing on October 19. The next episode of the show’s 18th season will air on October 26 at 9 p.m. ET.
The next episode is titled “Rape Interrupted” and guest stars Anthony Edwards (ER). Here’s the episode description from NBC:
A sergeant (Edwards) makes Benson (Mariska Hargitay) choose between loyalty and duty when his son is accused of rape. Also starring Ice T (Det. Odafin Tutuola), Kelli Giddish (Det. Amanda Rollins), Raúl Esparza (ADA Rafael Barba) and Peter Scanavino (Det. Sonny Carisi). Also guest starring Corey Cott (Ellis Griffin), Anna Osceola (Janie Spears), Jenna Stern (Judge Elana Barth), Joseph Lyle Taylor (Mickey D’Angelo) and Kelly McAndrew (Diane Griffin).
NBC was originally scheduled to air an episode titled “Unstoppable,” which would have starred Gary Cole (Veep) as a Donald Trump-type character whose campaign is hurt by sexual assault accusations from women. However, Variety reports that the network opted to reschedule the episode for after the November 8 election.
Variety’s sources said that the SVU team initially wanted the episode, written by sVU veteran Julie Martin and showrunner Rick Eid, to air as the second episode of season 18. It was written months before the 2005 Access Hollywood tape of Trump explaining how “you can do anything” to women if you are a celebrity.
