The first Arby’s restaurant opened on July 23, 1964, in Boardman, Ohio. The idea for the franchise came from Forrest and Leroy Raffel, who bought their uncle’s restaurant equipment business in the 1950s. As the brothers became acquainted with the restaurant industry, they realized there were more opportunities for fast food chains that sold food other than hamburgers. Today, more than 3,200 Arby’s restaurants operate worldwide.
