Some Instagram users within the past day have been having trouble accessing their accounts, appearing as if it was deleted or disabled for seemingly doing nothing wrong.
Reports of the error flooded other social media platforms with some users pleading with Instagram to restore their account because of the deactivation.
When Instagram’s official Twitter account tweeted out several tweets during the day July 6, failing to acknowledge the issue, many affected users demanded to have their account restored.
But finally, a few hours later, Instagram finally acknowledged the problem by issuing a statement saying their technical team is on it.
“We’re aware of a bug that’s causing some users to be logged out of their accounts,” the tweet said. “We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible.”
But that didn’t satisfy some users, who responded to the statement angrily by saying that the mobile application isn’t logging users out. Instead it’s deleting the entire account.
According to The Verge, when an affected user logs onto the account, it says it has been disabled. When a separate person goes onto the users’ profile, the “Sorry, this page isn’t available” message is displayed.
One affected user said on Twitter that Instagram asked them to verify their account by entering in their phone numbers for verification but they never received the code.
There is no word yet when the issue will be completely resolved. But if there’s one thing that’s for sure, it’s that the internet won’t let the “bug” go lightly.
