It was the 2013 CMA Awards tonight and there were tons of performers lined up: Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flats, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, and many more. With Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley hosting once again, it was definitely an unforgettable evening. Now have a look at the Top 10 Highlights from tonight’s CMAs …

1. The Opening Sequence Made Fun of Obama

In Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley’s opening sequence, the two sang songs about creating feuds in Hollywood. This was to poke fun at feuds between Miley Cyrus and Sinead O’Conner in addition to several other celebrity quarrels going on now. But, this wasn’t even the funniest part, later in the routine, Underwood and Paisley sang a song making fun of Obamacare. Whoops! Oh, and the guys from Duck Dynasty made a little appearance in the opening sequence as well.

2. Taylor Swift Was Surprised by Justin Timberlake & Julia Roberts

Sweet Taylor Swift was presented with the Pinnacle Award by fellow stars George Strait, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, The Rascal Flatts, and Keith Urban. But, before Swift walked up on stage, a tribute video was shown to the audience. In the video, Mick Jagger, Reese Witherspoon, Justin Timberlake, and Julia Roberts all congratulated Swift on her award. Swift was delightfully surprised and seemed almost overwhelmed with joy.

3. Luke Bryan Dedicated a Performance to his Deceased Siblings Tonight

Luke Bryan opened the show tonight and then reappeared for a second performance at the end of the evening to sing “Drink a Beer.” The song is dedicated to his brother Chris and sister Kelly, whom he lost in 1996 and 2007. Sadly, Bryan’s brother Chris died in a tragic car accident. As far as his sister Kelly, ABC reports:

When he (Bryan) was invited to perform at the famous Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Bryan’s older sister, Kelly Cheshire, organized 129 people, practically Bryan’s entire hometown, to attend his Opry debut. Tragically, just a few days after Bryan’s performance, his sister died at home. Bryan said the cause remains undetermined.

4. Diddy Makes a Surprise Appearance

I know what you’re thinking … What is Diddy doing at a Country music event? That’s exactly what he knew you’d be thinking. Diddy then talk about how he’s actually been a fan of Country music for years, but he was sure to plug his new music company Revolt as he presented an award with Kellie Pickler at his side.

5. Kenny Rogers Received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award

Music legend Kenny Rogers was recently inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and tonight was his time to receive Willie Nelson’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 CMA Awards. Check out the tribute performance in the above link.

6. George Strait & Alan Jackson Paid Tribute to the Late George Jones

With George Jones’ wife filled with tears, George Strait and Alan Jackson honored the memory of the music icon with a brilliant performance.

7. Florida Georgia Line Dominated the Night

The dynamic duo took home two awards from the CMAs- Single of the Year and Vocal Duo of the Year. Plus, they performed twice at the awards … first as part of the opening number with Luke Bryan and later in the night. For the opening number, they performed their hit, which they won their awards for, “Cruise.” Taylor Swift actually stood up in the front row, pointing at the duo as she sang and danced to their song.

8. Tim McGraw Performed His New Single “Southern Girl”

Tim McGraw is the epitome of sexy, but that’s beside the point … McGraw took the stage to perform his new song “Southern Girl” and it was a great success. In addition, he won two awards for the evening, both of which were announced on Good Morning America in the below link:

9. David Grohl from The Foo Fighters Performed with the Zac Brown Band

The Zac Brown Band was performing their new song “Day For The Dead” and guess who was on the drums. David Grohl from The Foo Fighter took over the drums and rocked the house.

10. Keith Urban & Miranda Lambert Performed in Their First Duet Together on Stage

Veteran Country artists Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban performed together for the first time with their song “We Were Us.” Tonight was an amazing night for Lambert as she took home two awards, along with husband Blake Shelton who took home two as well.
