When Zendaya was first cast in the Aaliyah biopic movie, she received a lot of backlash and eventually dropped out of the film. As a result, Alexandra Shipp, who also tried out for the Aaliyah film, got the part. She too has had to deal with criticism, taking on such a legend to play onscreen. With Shipp's performance, several Twitter trends have started - #LifetimeBiopics and #AailyahMovie. Fortunately, there weren't as many harsh critiques as expected. Time writes: The film follows Aaliyah over the course of her three-album career, ending right before her death in a plane crash at age 22 in 2001, and chronicles her work with R. Kelly, Timbaland and Missy Elliott. Shipp, who sings all of the songs in the film herself, took on the role confidently, ignoring the pushback from fans and the singer’s family. Now, for all you men out there hoping to score a chance with the new star, we're sorry to say she's taken. Shipp revealed her boyfriend is a producer when she appeared on the Wendy Williams show.
