'American Idol' 2016 Top 24 Contestants
The top 24 winners of American Idol season 15 have been chosen and the range of singers is unlike any other season. This week, past winners including Ruben Studdard, Nick Fradiani, Scotty McCreery, Fantasia Barrino and Jordin Sparks, in addition to others, come on board to help mentor the contestants. McCreery talked to Win Country about his helping out a couple of the contestants and said: I remember how important it was to me during my time on Idol to meet and learn from all the great artists who visited the set and offered their advice. I was proud to be able to come back and offer whatever guidance I could to my two talented contestants. This is their season and their show. I was there to help them shine ... and I believe they both did! Now, as for when it comes to narrowing down the top 24, usually, it's America who chooses the top 10 contestants from the semi-finals. This year, however, the judges are picking a top 14 from the top 24 performers.
So, how does this all work for the rest of the season? TV Line gives the run-down for the farewell season: On Feb. 10 and 17, we’ll see pre-taped performances from 12 contestants apiece, with the judges eliminating five singers on the Feb. 11 and 18 results-shows (that will also include contestant duets with Idol All-Stars), resulting in a Top 14. That group will be whittled down — again, mainly by the judges — during the Feb. 24 and 25 episodes, with viewers saving some Wild Cards to complete a Top 10. After that, the competition airs only one night a week starting March 3 until the April 5-7 series finale week, with the Idoloonie Nation finally regaining control of the voting process.
