As the well-known adage goes, “Behind every successful man is a great woman.” In Reynolds’ case, it’s a wife and a daughter. The A-Lister, 39, is married to former Gossip Girl standout Blake Lively, 28 and the two have a daughter together named James.
Here’s what you need to know:
1.They Have a 1-Year-Old Daughter Named James
On December 16, 2014, Reynolds and Lively welcomed their first child — a daughter named James — into the world. Lively announced her pregnancy on Preserve, an ecommerce website she’s since shut down.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted ever since I was a little girl,” Lively told US Weekly in October.
On January 5, 2014, a US Weekly insider source dished on the birth of the star couple’s first daughter and the Westchester County, New York home they’d be staying in.
“The baby came early but everyone is happy and healthy. The Bedford house is all prepared. They’re going to stay up there for the baby’s first days.”
In November 2015, the family was spotted vacationing in Lord Howe Island, Australia as Lively showed off her stunning post-baby body.
On February 17, Reynolds spoke on The Ellen DeGeneres Show about his daughter’s smarts, which apparently give her the innate ability to spot her father under Deadpool’s mask.
“She is running around talking and having a ball. She sees me all over the place, because right now the Deadpool advertising is everywhere. So when we go to New York City it’s on top of the cab and she’ll be like, ‘Dada. Dada. Dada. Dada.’ I don’t know how she — I mean, I’m in a mask — but yeah, she knows that’s me.”
2. The Couple Has an Estimated Combined Net Worth of $61 Million
Reynolds — who tweeted the above-pictured thank you to his Deadpool loyalists — began accumulating his wealth at 15-years-old as an actor on Nickelodeon’s Fifteen. From that point on, his acting career progressed with comedic movies such as National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, Just Friends and <em>Definitely, Maybe. However, it later evolved with him donning more action-oriented roles that included Blade: Trinity, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Green Lantern. Like Reynolds, Lively got her start in TV as well with roles in Gossip Girl and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. However, her first role was in the 1998 flick, Tooth Fairy, directed by her father, Ernie Lively. She’s made a good portion of her fortune via endorsing brands such a Chanel and Gucci.
Furthermore, the couple’s Bedford, New York home — purchased by Lively for $2.3 million in 2012 — is 1.7 acres and has “three to four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms,” according to Celebuzz. Click here to view the property’s photos.
3. They Had A Secret Wedding Where ‘The Notebook’ Was Filmed
Reynolds and Lively tied the knot in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina at Boone Hall Plantation in September 2012. The plantation has been open to the public since 1956. However, aside from its controversial history, it’s also known for its presence in 2004’s The Notebook, where it was used as Hamilton’s Beach House. It was also used for NBC’s Days of Our Lives and ABC’s mini-series North and South.
Right up until Reynolds and Lively’s wedding, the private nuptials were kept on the hush-hush. For the occasion, a DJ was on hand to spin tracks and a specially-made cake was driven in from Virginia.
During Welch’s performance, the bottom of Lively’s wedding gown got damaged, courtesy of a sparkler burn mark. Lively told Entertainment Tonight about how her hubby put the big day mishap into proper perspective for her.
Florence Welch was singing at the reception, and they brought out these sparklers, and I’m watching her sing. I look down and my wedding dress has a big burn mark from one of the sparklers. Right on the front! And it was just so heartbreaking to me. Later, my dress was hanging up and Ryan said, ‘Isn’t that beautiful?’ I said, ‘What?’ And he pointed to the burn. My heart just stopped, because it was such a sensitive little subject. And he said, ‘You’ll always remember that moment with Florence singing and the sparklers. You have that forever, right there, preserved.’ Now that’s my favorite part of the dress.
4. It’s His Third Long-Term Relationship & Her Second One
Prior to becoming an item with Lively, Reynolds had two other serious relationships. In 2002, he dated singer Alanis Morissette, a fellow Canadian. The pair announced their engagement in February 2007, but mutually parted ways in later that year. Shortly after his relationship with Morissette went kaput, Reynolds started dating actress Scarlett Johansson and became engaged to her in May 2008. They got married on September 27, 2008 in Tofino, British Columbia.
Before meeting Reynolds, Lively dated her Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley for three years until they broke up in September 2010.
Reynolds and Lively — evidently a match made in heaven — have now been together for well over four years.
On February 8, Reynolds revealed to Entertainment Tonight (as seen above) one of the most romantic things that he’s ever done for Lively.
“I’ve done things where I’ve like flown halfway across the world to just see my wife for a day because you’ve got to do that.”
Despite the Reynolds’ charming intentions, he came clean that he — at least right before Valentine’s Day — was undecided on plans for his wife.
“I’ve been in about 15 countries in 20 days. But I will come up with something spectacular.”
On July 18, 2014, Lively spoke to Vogue magazine about her and Reynolds’ boundary-less love and the many tasks it entails.
“He’s a part of it because everything we do in life we do together. If I’m working on a movie, he helps me with my character; I do the same with him. Picking out a coffee table. What we’re going to eat. He’s a beautiful writer—he’s written a lot of stuff for us. And he’s got a great barometer and he knows me, so he will tell me if it’s not as good as it can be.”
5. They Met in 2010 While Working Together on ‘The Green Lantern’ Movie
Reynolds and Lively met on the set of DC’s The Green Lantern in 2010. When they both began shooting, Lively was dating Badgely and Reynolds was married to Johansson. The two first appeared in public together at the San Diego Comi Con. However, their San Diego Convention Center outing was to promote their movie.
On October 16, 2010, Lively presented her now-husband with the Most Anticipated Movie award at Spike TV’s Scream Awards at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.
