Tonight is the Season 2 premiere of CMT’s I Love Kellie Pickler, and based off what the country singer has said in interviews, it’s bound to be a fun-filled season. Pickler, who first gained fame after appearing on Season 5 of American Idol, recently told Lancaster Online, “We’ve had a lot of fun, and we have amazing friends and family that will be introduced in Season 2. It’s an adrenaline junkie rush of a season, I guess you could say. We get to mark off a lot on our bucket list.” Just like last season, Pickler’s husband, Kyle Jacobs, will be joining his wife for the fun.
Read on to learn more about Kylie Jacobs, Kellie Pickler’s husband.
1. He Co-Wrote Garth Brooks’ Single, ‘More Than a Memory’
Like his wife, Jacobs, 43, is also an avid lover of country music. The Minnesota native has been a staff writer for Curb Music since 2003, and co-wrote Garth Brooks’ 2007 hit single, ‘More Than a Memory’, which was the first song to debut at No. 1 on Billboard Country Singles’ chart. He has also written songs for legendary artists like Trace Atkins, Jo Dee Messina, Craig Morgan, Tim McGraw, Clay Walker, Kelly Clarkson, and Scotty McCreery.
Jacobs, who writs music on both piano and guitar, shares rights on Kimberly Locke’s Top 10 Hit, ‘8th World Wonder’.
2. He Proposed to Pickler After 2.5 Years of Dating
Jacobs proposed to Pickler on June 15, 2010– the day of her late grandmother’s birthday. The two had been dating for 2.5 years, and officially tied the knot on January 1, 2011.
Pickler and Jacobs were married in a “small, intimate ceremony on a private island in the Caribbean”, according to People. After the proposal, Pickler told the news outlet, “It was the most spiritual moment. We would’ve gotten married that night had there been a preacher walking by.”
3. He Started Working With Pickler the Day After He Met Her
Kyle and Kellie met in 2007 at a bar through mutual friends, Chris and Amy (fellow Nashville songwriters). Pickler told HNGN, “So we ended up sitting with him and his buddies, and we got lost in conversation and everybody else disappeared. We started writing songs the next day, and then we got hitched, well, that happened a few years later.”
The couple continued writing music together– in fact, Jacobs co-wrote Kellie’s song, Feeling Tonight, which, according to HNGN, marked the first time the wedded couple worked together in the studio. She gushed to People about the experience, saying, “I’m so excited to be in the studio again recording a new album, and working with Kyle has been amazing. He has watched me perform for years, so it was great to have a front row seat as an artist and see him in his element.”
4.He Helped Found UTEC
Jacobs, like Pickler, is very active in the community, and was a founding member of UTEC (United Teens Encounter Christ). The foundation’s website reads, “United Teens Encounter Christ (UTEC) is a Christ-centered, relational experience in a Christian community for high school students. UTEC is a non-denominational high school youth ministry which structures a three-day weekend, held three times a year.”
Pickler is an active supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and has performed for the NC Children’s PROMISE, to benefit the Children’s Hospital. She even appeared on Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? where she played for the American Red Cross and the AARP’s Grandparenting Program.
5. He’s Also Won a Dance Competition
In May 2013, Pickler was named the winner of Season 16 of Dancing With the Stars. She’s not the only one who can move her feet, though– in college in Minnesota, Jacobs won a dance contest of his own.
Pickler told USA Today, “We’ve been joking about sneaking into the Country Music Hall of Fame and putting his little dance trophy beside my mirror-ball trophy.” But while the two may be on the same page when it comes to dancing, they differ when it comes to sleeping– while being interviewed on the Ellen show, Pickler revealed that she’s jealous of how easy it is for Kyle to sleep. Pickler, herself, is an insomniac, and she’s infuriated by the fact that her husband can fall asleep once his head touches the pillow.
The new season of I Love Kellie Pickler begins Thursday, August 25, at 10pm ET/PT.
